I was there a couple of weeks ago. There is a lot of artificial rock work done there, too ... a very high percentage of the coastline was rebuilt, so the parts that aren't walls in the photos fooled you.
However, it is difficult to get a natural look when you are trying to restore something that's now vertical. They wanted all the ground on top, and the bottom has eroded away and the authorities won't let them go back out into the ocean to reclaim it.
Looking closely at Cypress Point is a great lesson in the awesome power of the Pacific Ocean. If not for the walls, it is likely there wouldn't be a 15th, 16th or 17th hole in another 25-50 years -- they were having serious erosion issues.
