Greg Norman now designing homes
« on: July 17, 2007, 07:46:29 AM »
FROM ARABIAN BUSINESS MAGAZINE:

The interiors of the signature villas on the Jumeirah Golf Estates Residential Community will be based on the four elements: Fire, Earth, Water and Wind, while a fifth style will be influenced by B&B Italia's contemporary range, the ‘Maxalto Collection'.

The 66 ‘Rosewood' villas have been designed by Greg Norman and will feature interiors by B&B Italia Contract Division which specialises in furnishing complete commercial projects such as hotels, offices and retail spaces as well as cruise liners. On the design Greg Norman said: "I have been very hands-on with the design of ‘Rosewood', as I am with all of the projects I undertake. It has been great to allow my imagination to run free in a new direction with the design of these homes."

I can't wait for the "Greg Norman Cosmetics Line" ;D, hair products, eye shadow, lipstick and maybe a little glitter gold for accent
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

If his homes are like his golf courses.....they would be very difficult and more than a little unfair to live in.

I don't really think I want one.........

He was involved in the homes on his course @ PGA West. Nice homes, interesting course....but would echo the WHC comment as to playability.

I think at times we blurr the distinction between physically and mentally designing and creating things....... versus making design selections according to ones tastes and then having others compile them for you while employing standards of good design.

There is a big difference between the two.

Paul, excellent point. It's like the difference between writing and editing. Unfortunately, some desk editors at magazines and newspapers, like developers, succumb to the eager-beaver promotional mentality of deliberately confusing the two. Whether in the form of celebrity children's book authoring (little more than endorsing, really) or "signature golf course design," too many people are all too willing to overlook the work that goes into actually creating and designing something.

Hmm I wonder what kind of toilets Greg will have? Shanks or Toto? I would like to think he is a 2 plus roles of TP designer as well.

I went in a couple of models a few years ago, so technically neither. Would give the homes a 6.5 on the Doak scale, but a 1 on the affordability scale. :'(

A couple of months ago I was sent a copy of a real estate flyer listing for sale the "Original Estate Home of A.W. Tillinghast designed by the famed golf course architect himself!"

Of course the person who wrote that was mistaken as the house was not Tilly's (it is located on the opposite side of the streeet from where he lived) and Tilly never designed a house...

There must be a market for homes designed by golf course architects out there somewhere...

Indeed,

Didn't Tom Doak mention he just moved?  I'm sure any GCA'ers looking for a summer home in Michigan might be interested in his recently vacated abode...  ;)

"Too many people are all too willing to overlook the work that goes into actually creating and designing something"

Brad:
I think that's right, and it's because so few people have ever actually created or designed something themselves, or have even tried to. If they had, they'd probably be a little more humble about their own talents, and a little more generous about the talents of others.

What a great idea. Would it have nice wide hallways but with tricky undulating floors in the den?  Watch out for an occasional blind shot at the toilet!    ;)
