Carnoustie - Open set up
« on: June 25, 2007, 05:45:04 AM »
Does anyone have any insight into the current condition of Carnoustie. Given the very wet May and June, is the rough brutal? Has the rain meant the course is not firm and fast? Is there any chance of a repeat of the carnage of 99?

I played almost three weeks ago - course was fairly soft and the rough was benign.  But the R&A have specified that there is to be no watering before Open week!

Rain continues to fall in Carnoustie. The rough was short and thin in May but as each wet week passes it becomes longer and thicker. I wonder if some cutting will take place in the next couple of weeks to avoid a repeat of '99

Played it thursday. Rough very playable in most areas. My caddie told me they don't want it as hard as the last time.

We've had plenty of rain in St Andrews and Carnoustie will have had more than us.  If we get a weeks hot (well for Scotland) weather then I imagine the rough will really take off.

One thing's for certain it won't have the dry dustbowl look of Hoylake.
