US Open commercials

How many of you are wishing they would take a hint from Augusta and limit the commercials and fluff?

For me the  Open just hasn't been the same since ABC did it with Jim McKay being the anchor.

Ralph,

You're just upset they aren't advertising clubs that can catch on fire.....

Good one Joe.

Is anyone else hearing "square grooves" too much? Maybe there should be a push for smooth faced Irons. Wonder what that would add to the challange for the players...

Bill, I agree. He does know how to blather on. That plus the myth's he re-states. Just heard him comment on Sarazan "inventing" the sand wedge. You would think he that might have been introduced to the Hagen Sand Wedge by now.

I do like the golfballs-on-the-green graphic to show the contours.

Just saw it, that is good.
The baby woods Nike commercial is not bad either.

How old is the kid who makes the ace in the USGA ad? 30? Those might be the longest-running TV ads in the history of the medium.

No, no, no wait, wait, wait!

Johnny Miller invented the sand wedge!

Actually, I am waiting for the end for him to say how great his 63 was to finish and that these guys are all wanna be wankers!

Adam,
I was guessing somewhere in the UK or Ireland with the clubhouse and the red stake next to the tee. Then I wondered why the guy was hitting from the LGU tees and why he was getting out of a left-hand drive car.

The only commercial that I noticed and stopped while Tivoing through to watch was the "Obsession" one with the woman who kept trying to hit the range guy, that was hilarious!

The rocky island offshore looks rather like Bass Rock which is located just off the coast from North Berwick but I don't think the golf hole looks at all like anything from that course - maybe it is the East Links.  Perhaps it is another course from the area - unfortunately our Scottish brethern likely did not see that advert over there.

True, but my girlfriend gets a tear in her eye everytime it comes on.  As long as it works...
