Highest Score?
« on: June 14, 2007, 07:56:33 AM »
The first score posted for the 2007 US Open was a birdie 3 by Ken Duke.  The winner at the 72nd hole will likely be 3-5 over par.

But what will the highest score be?  If we were to magically eliminate the cut and let the full field play all 72 holes the highest score (likely by some amateur) could well be an astronomical 60 over par.

With the cut I'm betting that we'll see a highest 2007 Open score on Sunday in the 40 over par range.  What was the highest Open score in history?

I'm saying it will match the number of off topic threads started in the next 4 days.

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Someone will not break 90 today
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Sorry John, no 90s.  There were however 17 players in the 80s with the 156th player posting an 86.  40 over is still a realistic high score.

60th place after the 1st round is 4 over.  Say dryer, firmer conditions make scores go up a few strokes in the 2nd round.  The cut might come in around 150 or 152.  For the highest 72 hole score to be 40 over, someone on the cut will have to average 84 or 85 the last two rounds.

Seems unlikely to me.  Highest score last year was 305.  25 over.  Is Oakmont going to be 15 strokes tougher than WFW for last place?
