It was Twenty Years Ago Today…
« on: May 06, 2023, 02:52:57 AM »
No, not when Sgt Pepper taught the band to play, but when yours truly first posted here. I remember exactly where it was. We were in the Studio at College whilst doing the MSc, when a certain young Mr Brian Phillips said to me, “Marty, you really should join the discussion group at Golfclubatlas”. In those days we were mostly using aliases, so I chose the Fatbaldydrummer username and off we went!

Boy, that’s been a FAST twenty years. It’s been really great being a contributor here. I hope I’ve been okay at that. I’ve made a few lifelong friends (and a couple of enemies!) along the way. I’ve got to see and play at golf courses I never imagined I would have. I’ve learnt way more than I’ve taught. I’ve gained way more than I’ve given.
There’s been a lot of water under the bridge. We’ve lost some really great people. I’m sad about that, but very happy to have known them at least for a short while.
This isn’t a farewell speech. You don’t get rid of me that easily! I just wanted to mark the day. Here’s to another Twenty!
Love’n’peace,
F.

Congratulations!

On my bucket list to tee it up (or have a drink) in Fife with you.

Happy anniversary Martin, I had a feeling that there really would be something meaningful about today!

Echo all your thoughts and add that I've joined two excellent courses thanks to suggestions and introductions on here.

Hope to see you and Nancy this summer.

Happy Anniversary. I think mine is on the horizon.
"Fatbaldydrummer" was the first GCA'er I personally messaged. He was kind enough to respond which meant a lot to me.
A rose by ANY name...
I look forward to your posts in 2043.

The thing about teaching and giving is you often don't recognize when you've done it.  As someone you've taught and given to...thanks.

FBD:  Where's Brian now?  It's been a long time since he was here.

Tom,
Brian is still a good friend. Still in Norway, but out of the business for a few years now. Pops over to the UK for the occasional game of golf - and the visits to Anfield to see his beloved Liverpool FC!
Cheers,
M.

Congratulations. In February, I celebrated my 20th year. This site has taught me so much. I am very grateful for it.

I just checked and was amazed to find out that I started 16 years ago in March.

I had been to Scotland for the first time the summer previously and this year my wife and I will be back for the fifth trip including all of August and September. Starting with 12 days in Largoward.
