Firm And Fast in Memphis
« on: June 07, 2007, 11:03:00 PM »
Again, it appears the firm and fast set-up at TPC Southwind is confounding the touring professionals, and refuting the argument that zoysia is an inferior fairway grass.  With the exception of a few holes, there aren't many trees,  the rough is relatively short, and the greens aren't tricked up.  Mother Nature gets a slight assist with a nice breeze and the pins are tucked.

Perhaps the USGA dandruff crowd can take a few pointers from the Hillbillies.  We rule.

I've been hearing rumors that the tourny might move to Spring Creek Ranch.  I think that would be a shame.  Southwind has really pulled it together the past couple of years.  They've worked hard to keep the course in shape during the tournament, I think they re-did the greens, and they reduced scoring without tricking it up.

I haven't seen Spring Creek Ranch, so this post isn't intended to be a knock on the efforts there.  I just think the TPC has done some good work.

Stanford bought the tournament and bought Spring Creek Ranch.Probably only a matter of getting the infrastructure built to handle the traffic.Maybe 2 or 3 years.
