Sew, a needle pulling thread

La, a note to follow sew - WT kind of line is this? A NOTE TO FOLLOW SEW!?!?

Tea, I drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to do...oh oh oh

So most of the lines MAKE SENSE, right?
But that one sticks out like a sore thumb. Meaningless, pointless, of little value. Plopped in there solely to scan, to rhyme, to fill.

Remind you of a golf hole anywhere?

My favourite(?!) is the 9th at TOC. Dull, boring, just filling in the space between two better holes. Inflammatory chat, I know. So come up with a better example or go wear a wimple and warble in the Alps!!!

I think par 3 connectors are the most common form of Las.

A couple of las close to LA:

Stone Eagle 12

Cant agree.9 of TOC is the best no reference hole in the world.What feels more naked than a 60 yard pitch to that green.If there is a la in the loop,it is 8.

Starters and finishers on many would qualify. Staters to get to the meat and finishers to get to the clubhouse.

I always liked the self-depricating reality behind the line "la a note to follow so".

one man's 'self-deprecating reality' is another man's 'barely-explored creative possibility'. ;)

I was rather thinking the bloke who gave us the lyrics for South Pacific, Carousel and The King and I could possibly have searched a little further for something perhaps more meaningful.

I bet you'd agree that you'd think less of Tom Doak if you thought he hadn't spent at least the PROPER amount of time and energy over his design decisions. I know I would!

Design - also as in musical and lyrical composition - is an iterative process. I would assume Mr Hammerstein II had plenty of opportunity to write something better for the music of Mr Rogers. Although those darned Contractual Obligations are always around!

Martin, I believe you've set yourself up for the challenge of a replacement phrase for the song.

La, A town without scruples...

La, a fun sound to make...

I don't know about you, but I find La a very tough sound to convey into words.
