#12 is listed at 184 yards.  It used to be shorter?

I'm going to have to say that based on what I am seeing on TV that Muirfield looks like an obsolete design style.  A horrible site for a modern course.  I'm sure I would rather play Dismal River.

Yes, but the galleries would have a hell of a bus ride, given the purpose of MV was to put on a tournament in Jack's home town.

I found your "obsolete" comment interesting.....If the best courses of the GA, or even the RTJ era are said to remain relevant and prototype today, and of course, worthy or restoration, why not a very good course from the 80's?  The bunkers are shaped more simply than the jagged edges preferred by some, but they are no simpler than say, a Perry Maxwell bunker.

#12 originally played 156yds;additionally,#'s  1&10 now 470,471 were 446,441.#10 was considered the toughtest par4,by members, and #3 has forever,listed,  #1 handicap hole.The above is from the 1987 scorecard,however, these numbers were stable many years.
