Some more:

#7--"Humpback"--508/482/449/435 par 4 from the 449 tee--240 carry to get over the sand pit on the line toward the larger "hump".  This hole is no match for Jesse Jones...


#9--the prerequisite dropshot par 3 "Olympus"--227/202/168/144 from the 202 tee--will be either into or across wind most days

#18 is in the left-center coming from top to center and #1 is parallel going away from center to top to the right of #18

#10--the fairway is at 40' or so below the natural grade as it knifes between the slopes.  Greensite that was dependent on the walking-only nature of the project..

Shots of #12, the drive-able par 4--"The Narrows", or perhaps now better titled "The Wall   of Fame"--304/281/262/246


My quibble with this hole is that there is really no readily accessible avenue for the weaker player to lay up consistently.  The best bailout area is at the 220-240 yd mark short right

One of my favorites encapsulating the "lead and follow" mentality of many on GCA...Here we are eagerly following Jay Blasi/RTJ Designs up the 12th fairway, like a mother duck and her ducklings!!..

#14--"Cape Fear"--this shot is from the front of the 525yd tee--525/496/450/407 yd par 4--Turbo boost is off the left side of the centerline bunker--The turn does indeed reflect the coastline in the distance.  Supposedly a 315+ yd carry from this angle to the fairway on the line with the left edge of that bunker..


#15--"Lone Fir"--172/139/127/116 par 3--note that this is the 172 tee "box" which is really just an arbitrary spot in the 12th fairway.  Most of the tee "boxes" at Chambers Bay were just that, fairway height areas that merged with the adjacent green surrounds or walkways or adjacent fairways..


Again, #15, from (more or less) the 127 tee, this hole will be most frequently, as it was yesterday, into the wind

#16--"Beached"--425/396/359/323 par 4--a high grass berm with flanking trees used to separate the tracks from the sand/gravel worksite.  This area was reworked to open up the hole and the views.  At least 12 trains passed through in the time we were there, and I'm sure I missed counting a few..Again will be most often into a wind from the 1-2 o'clock direction, but occasionally will be dead downwind...The green is that tiny sliver in the upper right corner at about 2.30...


There is great elasticity at Chambers Bay, as reflected in the "random"ly intentional nature of the teeing grounds.  The tippy-tips can stretch to 7585, but I would gather that there is even untapped potential beyond that, given the expansive nature of the site.  Wind directions and pace can also be factored in to most of the teeing grounds...

#17--"Derailed"--218/206/142/119 yd par 3--Push one a bit and you can chase your ball to the Olympia rail yards!

#18--"Tahoma"  (I believe that's the Native American name for Mt. Rainier)--604/541/514/487 yd par 5--These are the unique sand/gravel "sorting bins" that were left in place.  I love these are they will certainly add a sense of "place" to the project.  Someone commented that they are, in essence, the ruins of the "Tacoma Castle".The green is in the left-center at about 9 o'clock...


This hole should be most often a bit downwind, but rarely into the wind...What is not evident is the large dune-line down the right side around 250yds and in on the hole which "hides" an area for potential use by media, championship committees, etc--always have to plan ahead these days

from left..unfortunately my memory is drawing a blank and cant remember the ponytail but I think it's David, and cant see the two behind him...but Jay Blasi (in black), Pete Pittock (brown...and, yes, I do know how to spell sep-e-rate ), Garland Bayley behind Pete, Greg Cameron in orange right of Garland, then Bob Eder with the glasses, and Jesse is the white coat...cant see face of the guy looking toward Jay..

Jordan, that is not Greg Cameron in orange. It is one of the guests, I forget who right now. Also, David Sucher did not make it. The person you identify as him is really Jim Adkisson.

In the first picture, Jim Adkisson is on the left with his back to the camera. To the right of Bob Eder with his back to the camera is Justin Rabune, Michael Dugger's guest.

Edit: If I remember correctly the gentleman in orange is Bob Jenkin's guest Kyle somebody. The picture is not that clean to me, but that may be Bob Jenkins between Jordan and Michael in the second picture.

I'm not the biggest fan of RTJII projects...they all seem to look similar, mostly due to the bunkers. I like the looks of this place. It doesn't look like a project from his company, but the scale of some of the individual bunkers like hole 18 and 17 have the RTJII feel, just dressed up a wee bit differently.

Look forward to visiting there one day.

Did anybody happen to shoot a photo of the smaller green on #5?

I thought it was very interesting, really small, and a cool alternative to the hole, though it will not often be used.





p.s. It should be noted that Jeff's first two pictures are very interesting..however, I doubled from my spot yet Michael birdied from the top of the dune...not bad, Michael.
