My father worked for BASF for many, many years.  He traveled an  awful lot to Dayton on business and I was taken along if the business was late in the week because then a weekend of golf would be involved at Miami Valley or sometimes NCR - which my father eventually joined because the out of town membership was ridiculously cheap and he could then return the favour of entertaining.  I have very fond memories of Miami Valley.  It is an excellent course.  Sadly, I don't have any recollection of NCR.  In any case, it would be lovely to see MV again.  Thanks for mentioning Dayton Matt!

Having played the area a little while only, I have developed my own opinions [shocked? ;)]. Hear are some.

Walden Pond is, as told, and nice course with quite a few good holes. It is worth the price.

Shaker Run is FAR better than Glenn allows. Even the Hurdzan nine is worth playing.

Weatherwax, an early Hills, is just plain good basic golf, without frills. Play all 36 in one day. I was surprised he he got 36 holes in such a small space, with virtually no overflow into other lines. Well laid out!

Reid Park sux!

All the named publics pale before the ones I have so often mentioned in Kentucky, so I go south a lot. I live in Ohio, but the best golf is south , then west, a little east, then lastly north. Dayton is NOT a hotbed of quality public golf.

Doug,

I like Shaker quite a bit and that is as far as I can go for Hills. I just can't stand 3,6 and 12. The rest of the course is good, although the tree is not necessary on 7. You described Weatherwax accurately. Reid Park does suck.

I really don't know why all the hating of Reid Park.
1 and 9 are goofy but the rest of the track is ok.

The only problem with MV is you need an armored vehicle to be safe.

Seriously? 11 is as goofy as it gets, no? 16 and 18 are a little off as well.
