drop circle

Is a hole that relies on a drop circle bad design.Without saying what I think of the clowns mouth hole at TPC,hit it in water and then proceed to drop circle doesn't feel like real golf. The flow of the game and basic idea of going from tee to green is violated.Kind of like the replay of a shot that hits a power line.Bet we wont have any drop circles at Oakmont!

A drop circle like on 17 may at times be necessary for pace of play purposes on a normal day, but it indeed seems odd for the pros to get the help.

I don't understand the "drop zone" here (17 TPC).  Simply re-teeing makes more sense.

On a resort/daily play facility, I coud understand from a pace of play perspective.

My not so humble opinion.

Somebody - Faldo? Miller? - had an idea to mow some fairway around the outer edge of the lake so that players who go over the green could drop on the other side of the lake and play back - although I don't know who would ever choose that option.
