Some interesting quotes and comments
« on: August 27, 2002, 08:32:35 AM »
Sometimes a picture tells the story that a thousand words can't, but sometimes words tell you even more.

"Everybody that has seen it is rating it as the best course they've ever played" D Trump.. Suburban Golf Aug 2002.

But he likes to poke fun at WF, which he (DT) now refers to as "the second best course" in Westchester County.

Sand rejected by WF as being to bright now finds its home at Trump National. Trump also (as per the story, but not a direct quote) believes his new course eventually will be recognized as the best course in the STATE of NEW YORK.

"There has never been a waterfall like this on a golf course," Trump said. "It's a $7 million golf hole. It's probably the most expensive golf hole ever built. We pump 5,000 gallons a minute."

Has anyone played this new "monster" and what is the story?,  do hope that thru all the BS there is still a fine golf course here even if it wouldn't be one I'd like to call my home course. Didn't they build Sand Hills and Pac Dunes for less than the cost of that one hole? :)

Sometimes I wish I were filthy stinking rich, and that my family had been so since the middle ages, and that I only knew other genuinely filthy stinking rich folks who were also members of said class forever, so that I could know what the really genuinely filthy stinking rich class think of this johnny-come-lately self proclaimed billionaire meglomaniacal peacock who thinks that the signature of greatness is how high you can squirt your waterfall... ::)

Was all set to play it a few weeks ago and at the last minute, could not. Several of my pals have played it already and each one to a tee, finds it weak, silly and over the top. They both said he should have saved his waterfall $$ for another divorce. The Donald is considered a shady character by many at WF. He's rumored to have a decent game and a scratch "foot wedge." Supposedly, he's banned from the annual club champoinship accordingly. His boasts about golf are pure ego and not even worthy of this thread's discourse. That said, lets see what he blurts out next.

Brad and all,

There was a thread on Trump National about a month ago, when the hoopla started.  Brad Klein has seen it and made some indirect (on purpose, I think) comments on the course in that thread.

Scott, hoping BK will return will more comments, may be doing something for GW or SNews, HOW BOUT AN ARIEL? Wonder if you can see NFalls?

Slapper, if the "foot wedge stuff is true", WHY doesn't WF run him?? Could he be WF's one and only black eye?

Just read in GW that The Donald may be trying to buy Ocean Trails, Pete Dye desing in So. Cal.  Talking about "razing the enitire layout and starting over, the way he did with Briar Hall to create Trump National."  no comment from Trump spokespeople.

That is just great: possibly the most monumental example of unbridled hubris in the history of GC development and design/construction with the most expensive fix in history in progress, and the Donald blathering about taking it over and perhaps starting over.

They could have built a world class research hospital or facility with what they pissed away on that project, and all this putz can do is think of ideas to pound more capital and borrowed money into that rat pile of rock and grass for more self agrandisement. Why should DT be offered access to capital lending that will end up coming from the pot you as a regular stiff can not access or borrow from even with with a sound development idea?  Surely, this is from the same folks that gave us Enron, TYCO and Global Crossing... >:(

RJ,

I was watching a Love Boat re-run the other night and when I saw Marla Maples doing a cameo I wondered why the Donald would bang such a so so chick...despite her lack of happy knobs I found Julie to be much more appealing...I saw DT take a few swings at the Crosby and anybody who can cheat his way to the low 70's with that move should have little trouble getting a loan approval.   Why would you want Donald Trump to fund a Research Hospital..I prefer statues of Virgins in my hospitals to combed over egomaniacs.   Have you ever noticed how Judas is the only bald apostle and is holding the money...Let Trump build his casinos and trust fund baby apartments...wish him all the success in golf...never ask for a cure from a handicap cheat...they'll give you strokes you don't need.

I'm working hard, Dick, to become a master of the softball question. I'm glad you appreciated the effort that went into that one.

You see, I want to have the softball-question thing down pat, in case I ever decide to apply for a job in golf "journalism."

Brad;

I wouldn't be so certain about overestimating "tastes" in modern architecture.

For instance, in their latest rankings, Golf Digest has Trump International GC ranked #6 in the state of Florida.

To give that some perspective, ALL of the first five in FL are in GD's Top 100 in the country!

I'd love to see where Trump Int'l would be ranked if it was given the "Tradition" points of a Seminole or TPC Sawgrass! :(

Do we have to personally attack this man?I'm sure he's paid more than his share of onerous taxes. What he builds is his business.I bet there are a lot of days he would give up his noteriety to play a normal round of golf.

Ahhh, come on! Now it's bad form to question Donald Trump and his statements and golf courses because he pays onerous taxes??

Ridiculous! I'm quite sure Trump has avoided more tax than all of us combined have ever worried about paying!

And Trump would just like to play a normal round of golf with no noteriety??

Double ridiculous! That man has not had a moment in either his waking or sleeping life when he thought of anything other than noteriety!

If he's going to make grotesque remarks like that reported in the first post for public consumption there's no reason on earth he shouldn't be praised or criticized for them!

In my book Trump has basically perfected the adage that a sucker is born every minute--or he's sure tried hard to perfect it.

I think Donald Trump is a joke! He's a very rich joke--but a joke nonetheless!

Lighten up guys!

The Trumpster has a legitimate USGA handicap which is roughly as current and more impressive than our Duelling Doyens, Paul and Mucci.  Look 'em all up on ghin.org.  Being such a stud, why can't he claim Trump National to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, or Donald Ross, whichever came sooner?

Or, maybe, just maybe, is the USGA handicapping system a complete crock of sh*t..................................????????????

Cheerfully

Very sorry, Pat.

Rich, he seeks all the publicity he can get, lets just make sure it's balanced. His GHIN is BS, play him even up and watch him and his caddie 24/7.

Rich:

I did so post a few scores--the very last times I've played. I didn't look it up on GHIN website scoring record yet but I did pick up my card and my handicap went down some so something must be working at GHIN.

I know (as does anybody else who has played with you) that you can play to 0-4, depending on the venue and the tees.  However, the fact that you have only posted 3 scores since June 2001 makes your USGA handicap, per se, not much more credible than The Donald's.  IMHO

Respectfully

Rich (We were once "GCA Gods") Goodale

PS--Brad M--knowing that DT's handicap is BS is child's play, but who cares?  And, who would ever want to play with him?

I read a snippet in the paper about Dullard Stump and his purchasing of said Ocean Trails.  True to gormless form he stated that "once they build three new holes" (as 3 were washed into the great briny by a storm) "It would be the finest golf course on the West Coast."

He needs somebody to kick him in the yarbles (if he's got any yarbles!) on live television, just once.

His GHIN  (Genitalia Has Inverted Netherly) is .9.  (He's got an "Inny".
