Have I left any out that are of this class?
Brad,
Never to be left off of any Tillie Par 3 discussion, #2, #12, #16 at Somerset Hills...all classics
#2 may well be the best example of a pure redan outside of Southhampton on this side of the pond. It is a devilish hole with stern test and rare redemption.
#12 is simply outstanding. It is a short hole with a small green fraught with difficulty over water, falling away sloping and speedy surface. Like #9 at QR, the wind is carefully hidden from its prevailing direction and the open pond allows snakey swirls to develop easily. Tillinghast must have snickered when his routing plans revealed this gem.
#16 at Somerset is also great. An uphill elevated deviously sized green with countours that could kill all sloped inside another de-treed trough. Very clever and tough to approach hole that calls for a very desired par with birdies fairly rare.
I do love QR #9,,having made everything there from two near aces (birdies) to doubles.
