Golf Blogs
« on: April 28, 2007, 07:57:40 AM »
After watching the Reds play what can only be described as pitiful baseballl the other night (j/k) I started looking for any golf blogs that talked about Ohio Golf.. Didnt really find anyone who promoted golf in the state... But then my focus changed and I went on to Geoff Shackelford's site and loved the satire.  He had some links to some other great blogs, I liked Bomb and Gauge and the Golf Chicks blogs (is she cute?).  So what is your favorite blog on golf?

the Herbert Warren Wind of golf blogs.

SI has had some decent blogs during the majors.  Alan Shipnick at the Open Championship was off the charts good.

B_Smith -  I really enjoy reading Ian Andrews blog

His insights as a golf architect can be expanded upon from what he posts here on GCA.  I appreciate and learn from these serious attempts to discuss architecture.

I much prefer this kind of blog from someone who knows the subject well.

Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Yes the Ian Andrew blog is quite good, I see that one is linked on Geoff Shackelford as well..

What bothers me about today's sports writing and blogs in general is an almost amateurish-- ESPN boo yah in your face type trying to be avante garde and hip..  I don't really care for the way writing has become less elegant (and that means simplicity rather than flowery ornamentation)..

The former Yankee and Reds outfielder Paul O'Neill lives in town here and I see him sometimes at my home club.  One day I'll ask him about his views on sports writing.

I'm not a big fan of Alan Shipnuck but I definitely have seen worse.

Check out Jeff Mingay's: mingaygolf.blogspot.com. The topics are interesting, the writing is thoughtful, and photos are really used well. I like Ian's too.

Mingay's is great and so is Rob Thompsons.

Kyle Harris also has some super content as well.

I toured a bunch of Ohio courses...just click on public golf midwest on my blog and they'll come up...Fowler's Mill, Firestone Farms and Quail Hollow are on there.

Oh Jay, you are too kind.

I deal primarily with Canadian golf -- though my writing on tour golf and such often takes me beyond the Canadian border.

Not wanting to toot my own horn, but since I just started the blog a week ago, not many folks know about it:
