Just wondering if anyone has played The Seawane Club on Long Island. I thinking about trying for the Mid Am there and try playing a few other gems in the area. Any Info would be great.

Lawrence

I noticed that the club just went through a renovation does anyone know who was involved

Consult Jason Blasberg--he was a member there for quite a few years.  This is one of my favorite Met NY courses.  You can access some good pictures from a couple of threads.

Photos have been deleted but in the first thread, you've got good informations on seawane renovation ... and wonderful exchanges between TE Paul, Tom Mc Wood and Pat Mucci  ;D

Ah, the good old days  ;)

Seawane is a very interesting course on the South Shore with the Atlantic Ocean impacting play on a number of holes.  Always in fine ciondition.  Be careful, it is very difficult to find.  The entrance feels like you are going up someones driveway in a residential area.  Plan your route.  Interestingly, for member play the super would set the course up at the same yardage everyday by moving the markers in many different locations.  On any given tee the reds could be farthest back the blue in the middle and the white forward.  For a qualifier I suspect the tees would be back on every hole.

Seawane is not far from JFK but Inwood CC is more closer.

You can check on Google maps.

Rockaway Hunt Club and Inwood are the two clubs that seem to get the most direct traffic from JFK.  It's not the planes you have to worry about it though, it's the green flies that at certain times of the year are pretty much unbearable, bug repellent or not....

Could anyone familiar with the area tell me how far it is from the course to Winged Foot and Bethpage. Also how long would it take for normal traffic to National.

Thanks

Lawrence-

Yuo are looking at around a 45 min drive from Winged Foot, maybe less at certain times of the day maybe more. Your also looking around a 30 min drive to Bethpage, assuming no traffic.

If you take the Southern State Parkway, and then go Montauk Highway RT 27, you can get out to Southampton in less than 2 hours when the time is right. But if you are heading east from 6:30am till around 9:45am, your in big trouble, theres a bottle neck around the Shinnecock Inlet and youll be stuck for a long time in a short distance. Stay away from Friday evenings.

One of my favorite spots on Long Island to play golf is the Seawane area. Rockaway Hunt is one of the most underated courses on Long Island, IMO. (For pure enjoyment alone)
