This is the course description from Inverness's website.  One paragraph brags about the fact that many courses claim to be Donald Ross courses but that Inverness is one of seven courses mentioned in Golf Has Never Failed Me.  Then the next two paragraphs allude to the "refinements" by the Fazios (four new holes!) and later Arthur Hills.  Talk about wanting to have it both ways.

Phil:

Sometime in the past year there was a very good GCA thread on Inverness, with lots of good pictures, and the author commented in the stark differences between the Ross portions of the course and the Fazio ones.

I thought I had read that Sylvanus P. Germain brought Ross in to redo what what was originally constructed there..

This photo from the link Wayne provided is apparently the 18th green at Inverness in 1931.  Spectacular, but apparently long gone.

Well if you think that's eye opening, Geoff Shackelford had this topic about Rees Jones and his comments about Oakland Hills:

The comments are surprising...as are Geoff's excellent observations.

Thanks for the reference to the old threads.  Is Inverness still in the rotation for the PGA?  It's been a pretty long time since the course hosted a major.
