The New TPC at Las Colinas
« on: April 29, 2007, 03:32:19 PM »
According to D.A. Weibring, consulting architect:

"The future has to be all about Byron."

The tees will be square/rectangular.

The bunkering will be the usual modern amoeba shaped thing.

The 18th hole will have a cascading, five-level water feature from the green back to the fairway.

Thoughts?

First, they really need to do something,ie rebuild the greens, which are in worse shape than I have ever seen any clubs around here.Several caddies showed up before committments were due and none of those players came. The course is what it is:a stadium course in an unattractive part of town that works very well for viewing golf ,parking, airport access etc.The work Weibrings people have done at Gentle Creek and Royal Oaks is very traditional and short game oriented.I am sure the waterfall is a marketing deal with the 4 seasons. It wont hurt:you are in the middle of offices anyway.Between the tour screwing with the dates, the greens, and Mr Nelsons death, the tournament is at a crossroads.I guess the tour doesnt care that the Nelson is the largest contributer to charity,Charlotte and Jacksonville are more important.I guess we know how Chicago and Washington feel.

Agree Mike.  Despite running a successful tournament for decades, and being by far the largest cumulative contributor to PGA charities, Finchem decided to support a 2 or 3 year old tournament and screw The Nelson.  The date is the killer for the event here.  Only 3 weeks after The Masters, the top guys aren't ready to play 3 straight weeks.

The Wachovia is a very nice event and all, but to reward a brand new event and punish the fans in the DFW area, and The Salesmanship Club, is a shame.  Thanks Tim.  May your dog get fleas.
