Tree on Habour town 16

So, is this tree necessary?  Having played the course a few times it seems a bit much.

Tommy,

I haven't seen Harbour Town on TV this week yet. But, the weirdest tree I recall at 16 is the palm in the bunker at front-right of the putting surface.

No Jeff, it is a pine - and it is a typical Dye conception !  Better than a bunker, but a lot of waste land to the left.

Mind you take your choice !

I've only played the course once and my jury is still out on the tree. However, I thought these photos might help illustrate the thread.

I was out at the tournament yesterday.  I'll be watching it on TV today from Long Cove.  Thne wind is currently blowing 30-50mph!!

If this keeps up this afternoon's scores are going to be huge!

This website's basic sensibility will probably be that trees aren't proper and are counterproductive in good architecture but they can hardly deny that some hole of Harbor Town are highly strategic due to tree placement. This kind of thing isn't uncommon on some Pete Dye courses. I was down around Jacksonville recently at Pete Dye's Amelia Island courses and many of those holes are the same as Harbor Town's with trees---eg the tree placements make some of those Amelia Island holes highly strategic.

I mean the palm pictured in the second photo above, nearer the green, Bill  :)

Hope all's well.

Jeff - I forgot about that palm tree, but I sure remember that pine.  It always got me thinking, what if ??????????

Sort of like Dye at The Moorings Club.  Should you do this or that ?

All's well here in Philly, except for the rain and the Phillies.
