In the US are Children allow to take a golf without an adult?

Me and my Friends have tried hiring them and we get looked at like we hav 4.5 Heads!

Matthew,

Define "children."

Are they allowed? Legally, not in most states, where they'd need a driver's license to drive a motorized automotive vehicle like a golf cart, though not many clubs enforce that.

Matthew,
In Ct. a golf cart is not considered a motor vehicle. Using one on private property doesn't come under the jurisdiction of the DMV. Even if the cart is used on the road to get from one part of a course to another, it is still not classified as a 'motor vehicle'.
Having said that, insurers are the main reason 'youts' don't get to rent carts.

Matthew,

We have 2 courses at our club.  On the championship course there are only something like 6 carts for those with medical clearance to take a cart.  There are times when members can carry there own,  but usually caddies are required.  However, junior golfers can always walk and carry their own.  On our second course many do take carts.  However, the operator has to have a valid drivers license, which means they have to be at least 16.5 years old.  I don't think I would like to get into the habit of paying for my 16 and 14 year old boys to ride a cart--unless its their second round.  Let 'em walk!

Matthew,

If you are a robust youth with lots of energy, it would be best to not get in the habit of using a crutch like a golf cart.

I am surprised to read that you were even thinking about it.

Matthew,

You're fourteen, if I recall correctly.  What the Hell are you doing even contemplating hiring a cart?  In Ireland of all places?

No wonder you got some strange looks.

In July I will be riding two stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity, including Mont Ventoux for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Matthew,
People die in golf cars every year.  No to say how many have torn ligaments in their knees and dislocated or broken hips....golf cars are dangerous and most clubs wolud/should not allow anyone without a license to drive....you can always find a lawsuit involving a golf car if you look....I saw one where the lady was under the cart for over an hour b4 anyone found her with a compound fracture.....
It might be of interest to read a golf insurance policy such as the "Eagle 3 policy from St Paul Insurance" I don't think any club's insurance will cover a child driving a golf car...

I agree with Garland and Abby.  A couple of teenagers were playing in a cart behind my group last weekend.  I really wished I could have taken it away from them.  My kids will not be using carts unless they are playing with their grandmother.  I say this because it is unlikely that their grandfather will let them ride either.

To be Honest we only wanted to Cart to muck about in, not for Golfing reasons ;D

It happened before an Inter-Schools match last year in Kilkeel and we all recieved a swift telling off by our teacher for being lazy 'Joy-Riders' before she hired one herself ;)
