Tim,
I would decline, because I would be sure that the next day in this dream world I would get the call to join Sand Hills which I would accept in a second.

Ed, your dreams must be small if you can't accept a invite to both ANC and Sand Hills in the same week.

After I accepted at Sand Hills, I'd get a call from Sebonack and then the R&A would hand deliver an invitation to join with a wax seal bearing the Queen's imprint, and I'd not only be a member a TOC but they'd also have me in charge of their equipment committee so I can do something about the damn ball ;D

Small potatoes......After Hugh Hefner dies, I assume the role. Then, my letters from TOC, Cypress Point, ANGC and Royal Melbourne arrive....then I buy out Trump so he can't develop any more courses....

Tim, you asked a fair question, and I'll give you an honest answer...

The only circumstances I'd accept an invitation to ANGC is on the barter or exchange basis whereby (if they still have this tradition and policy) those that volunteer to work at the Masters in key roles like extra grounds crew for the event, have in the past been allowed to play the course on one of the last days it is open for the year going into the summer layoff-closedown.  I would quite enjoy a job on the grounds during the toon-a-mint, and then play with other similar volunteers.

I don't live in the members world mostly.  I'm sure there are a lot of swell guys there that once you cut through all the up-front exclusivity and pretense, and are just regular Joes that love their course.  But, I don't feel comfortable running in that pack... So, if I could play on a day when the hoi polloi are having at it, I'd be thrilled.

Cary

I am pleased to inform you that the pastrami and corned beef are excellent at my new club, ANGC. The sandwiches are served a la Katz's Deli in New York, hand cut, not machine sliced, and on perfect rye bread with brown mustard, without mayonnaise.

My friend Chuck(and Warren and Bill) sponsored me for membership.

We'll invite you for a tryout.

Steve

OK, any dates in mind?

Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I'd decline because the course was too hard, or because it's closed all summer, or because they don't have pastrami or corned beef, because I'd have to wear long pants, because I couldn't have 7 guests, because they wouldn't accept my son becasue he was born north of the mason-dixon line ;D

That's funny Quassi, because my only reservation would be the number of Yankees that are members.

BTW, I awoke this morning with a little mail in the slot, but alas it was not THE letter.

Doug and Joe,
You are right, I DO need to think bigger. And to think I accused Tim of needing more imagination. ;D
Of course even the dream world runs into the reality of she who must be obeyed, so you can't just accept any old invitation. 8)

I've haven't been there yet, but the April Golf Digest had some interesting aerials.  How hard is it, and how much has it changed from the members' tees?

Looked like a lot of the old angles and width were preserved for the members -- some of the tourney tees are 50-70 yards back of the members' tees.

Steve,

Now you've got me thinking about Admiral's Cove and their lunch buffet.  The last time I was there the hot corned beef and pastrami was definitly hand cut ;D

the course in augusta might be better but I can't imagine the food being bettter :)
