2011 President's Cup to Melbourne -- But Where???

PGA Tour press release only said "Melbourne."

What would be your second choice for the venue? Metro? Is that what all this work at Commonwealth or Yarra Yarra has been about?

Would they go down the Mornington Peninsula? (Kinda doubt it, but you never know...)

I doubt that Commonwealth or Yarra Yarra would have the necessary infrastructure.

If RM is out because it held the event previously, then it would have to be either Metropolitan or KH.

You would hope they don't go down to Moonah Links, but you never know...

It's been a damn fine venue for the Australian Open. No fixing required.

There would be pressure for 4 or 5 'tiger tees' I would say. Other than that, the course stands up beautifully to tournament golf with the right preparation and conditioning.

Also, the 16th is a long way from the clubhouse. I would guess there would be pressure to alter the order of play like they did at RM, so matches finish closer to the clubhouse.

The tiger tees would definitely be pushed for a stroke event, you're right. For matchplay it may only be a couple.

There are 4 or 5 holes that could easily be lengthened with very little effort and disturbance to the course, which is a nice position to be in if required.

I believe they played the World Golf Championship matchplay event at Metropolitan a number of years ago, perhaps that will give the edge to Kingston Heath if that indeed are the three courses under consideration (inc. Royal Melbourne).

I highly doubt they would make such an announcement without an agreement of some sort. Maybe the clubs have to sort out who's getting a particular Aussie Open or something like that before they decide which one gets the Presidents Cup.

Might not be a problem if it was held at KH - it would look packed there no matter how many showed up.

I assume there is some government money being tipped into the event somewhere - there was at the last one under Fuhrer Jeff, wasn't there?

Hopefully they have a better ticketing system in place than the 98 Presidents Cup where they marketed only 4 day passes (no single day passes were to be sold). WIth a week to go and under intense pressure from the media, they buckled and sold single day passes much to the disgust of the 4 day pass holders. Luckily I had sold mine by that stage.

Won't it depend entirely on the ticket prices?  

I imagine swimming fans, and a few sports fans in general, would have relished the chance of seeing Michael Phelps the last week or so, but $198 was too rich.

I wouldn't pay that to see Woods.

In America, we got one-hour daily highlights, on an obscure channel during working hours. Pathetic!

Oh what I would give for swimming to be releagated to some obscure channel.

Hope it is Royal Melbourne.  They havent had a tournament there for a while and probably won't in the next few years either.

If they held it on the Mornington Peninsula, I doubt that there would be any issues of crowd control no matter which course they played it at.

If it is played at RM, it would be fantastic.  And, no changes needed for match play, although the short downhill par 4 (where East meets West I think) could be played to the West course green, reducing congestion for the next hole heading East.

I fear (?hope) there might be a few Americans crossing the Pacific and 'rooting' for their team in 2011.

It seems like their is some confusion in the media.  Maybe some people don't know there is more than one course in melbourne.  Even the website for the PGA tour's press release has "Royal Melbourne" in the title.
