....message from a bottle....
« on: April 04, 2007, 04:52:16 AM »
I have in the past tried to describe the assembled team needed that it takes to build a good golf course, and the various roles of those involved....but I also have struggled in my attempts.

To describe the endeavor as a Conductor directing a symphony or an Artist directing painters working on a large mural, all seem bogus and vainly egotistical.

It occurred to me today that it is more akin to writing and producing a Play where;

You have a Playright, a Director and a Producer.

You have a Cast of Actors, major and minor, each playing an important role to create the whole.

You have all sorts of Stagecrew and various specialists to pull off the complicated logistics of the production.

And then you even have the Audience, whose measured pleasure, or lack of it, determines the success of the venture.

This analogy makes me feel much better about everyone involved in the process......now where did I put the corkscrew?
I feel I've gotten all the message I can out of the last bottle ;)

So...

Playwright = Architect

Director = Builder?

Producer = Owner?

Ken,

Noting the time of his post and the subject matter, I would not expect a response from Paul this morning...

But I do like the analogy...

Good point, re. the time.

I also like the analogy, especially the relationship between Author, director, actor.

I have wondered about the architect, builder, shaper relationship, as have others. This analogy allows for "interpretation" by builders and shapers, without diminishing the art of the author.

As a writer and editor, I recognize the value of the relationship between those two professions, and can only imagine how important builders and shapers are to architects.

The director and actors can often find unseen gems like the funky lone tree in the pictures of Renaissance Club.

Jes and Forrest.....how quick you jump to conclusions! ::)

I can prove, if necessary, that I was in the internet lobby of the Acton Hotel in Kinsale at 5AM, typing away until my troupe awoken.....sheesh, give me a literary break.

I am posting this presently from the reading room of the Dingle Bay Hotel, in of all places Dingle Bay, after having driven here by way of Glengarriff, where we had lunch [1 pint of Smithwicks] and then having drivin backwards against the cart traffic thru the Gap of Dunloe [the only way to go BTW].

I can assure you both that the bottle thing was just my form of a lead in, one that I call 'trolling for yo-yo's'......caught some big ones I might add ;).

But enough of this malarky, as my great Nana would say....I need a drink to get primed for the Trad music in a few hours.

Guys ....try to keep it together till I return....especially you Richardson, cause I'll be seein you in just a week or three. ;)
