Fairbanks Ranch CC, San Diego
« on: March 10, 2007, 01:33:46 AM »
I noticed in an aerial that Fairbanks Ranch has added some new holes since I played there in high school. I couldn't figure out the new routing at all.

Does anyone have any comments, or knowledge of the new order of the holes?

Matt, the new nine is to the west of the old nine. It's already had some major drainage issues, not surprising since the whole place sits in a river bed. It's pretty much like the other nines, typical T Rob, palm trees and water features galore.

Before the new 9, this was probably one of TR's best courses.  This must be taken in context--it would not have challenged Barona, RSF, Farms, or Pauma among the best SD courses.  However, it was a fairly fun course that was very challenging and long from the back tees.  The course was the site of a 1984 Olympic equestrian event--the jumping features are integrated into the course.

It looks like the old back nine was split up and grafted into the new nine, and one cannot play the original 18 anymore - is this correct?

If so that's too bad - the discontinuity in the holes must be very noticable.

Matt, you are right on target.  The course has been butchered.  This is a major reason why over 50 members are in a lottery to sell their memberships.

Matt,

I haven't played the course in a dozen years.

I loved the WIND factor.

WHY did they change the golf course ?

Patrick, it's really a head scratcher because the club has been having a hard time filling memebrship before the new nine was opened. As Robert said, if anything, this has had the opposite effect of attracting memebers because of all the memebers in a lottery to sell. The club was (may stilll be) also involved in a discriminatory lawsuit that was all over the local tv stations. That probably didn't help.

Dave, this is your big chance to buy into a prime piece of T-Rob....just imagine the possibilities.
You'd make a fine little helper. What's your name?
