Disney World / Four Seasons Course
« on: March 04, 2007, 03:33:05 PM »
Based on the information here (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070301/clth121.html?.v=11), it seems Disney World will have a "new" course to offer.  (Short version, new Four Seasons resort with a course that will replace Ospey / Eagle Pines).

The golf course details or plans were not disclosed.

In reality, Disney will probably fail to take advantage and build a course that would raise its profile on the Tour.  If I had the say, I would push for a course that stands out from the template of the Florida resort course standard.  I firmly believe you don't have to build a push over course to satisfy the vacation crowd, nor a mammoth back breaker just for publicity.

Also, this is a unique opportunity to build a course that would stand out from others on the Tour & Florida events.  The land doesn't lend much, but they are few architects would do the work justice.

I'm curious as to your ideas and thoughts.  (Forgetting the reality that Disney is a corporate behemoth that doesn't pay much attention to golf architecture).

Even if the course would stand out, who would care?  The Disney tournament is now one of the second tier events, is it not?  And Tiger used to occasionally play but that is less likely now that he has moved (or is moving) from Orlando plus the fact that it is part of the "minor league" season ending events after the Tour Chamionshp.

Those of us here care, but most people do not and having an excellent course does not guarantee Tiger and he is all that matters as "l'affaire International" showed.

It's too bad they will put Osprey under the knife.  The course has always been the standout at Disney, and many have said they should play the tour event over that course.  The Dye is not nearly as good.

Strange that Disney really has top-shelf everything, is located in a year-round golf area, and hasn't yet built a course that anyone would consider "must-see."
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

The latest word out of Orlando is that Eagle Pines will be plowed under and Osprey Ridge will be "enhanced" and rebranded as a Four Seasons course.

Many seem to ignore the fact it doesn't have returning nines then.

I do like the course.

Four Seasons announced a hotel and golf course in Orlando about 2 years ago which I posted the news release on GCA.

I then wrote a letter to the CEO of the Four Seasons asking him to consider Doak/C&C/Hanse as the architects and I went on about the minimilists movement.  To my surprise, about 3 weeks later I received a letter from him saying that they would look into the matter and choose an architect that best fit the land???
