Curious about the breadth of knowledge here. Who can identify?

No Kalen.

Have you ever noticed that if you move the r in your name to make Karlen Baley, you will get a name very much like mine, especially since few people cirrectly hear me say my name and often call me Karlen. From what I have seen, the similarity in names is about the only similarity.

Hint.

I have not been to this course to take the picture.

Garland:

Unfortunately the hint doesn't help me, but by looking at the trees, it appears that it could be in the upper northwest (your neck of the woods), or the upper midwest and also in Canada.  So this leaves countless places.  I would say the shapers had a lot of fun :D as the whole picture was created.

I think the breath of knowledge on this site is solid, but from one picture, this is challenging. ???

Kalen:  Chambers Bay only has ONE tree on the whole site.

Scott,

It is not the Pacific Northwest. However, I do know that if you travelled far enough afield from the golf course you could find both Douglas Fir trees and Pinot Noir grapes, both brought from elsewhere of course since they would not be native.

My name has been butchered many a time before, but not like that.  :)

So now that the PacNorwest is ruled out, any more hints as to its whereabouts, especially being a hole that few have ever seen, much less played?

And what do you mean by the similarity in names is about the only similarity?  Are you suggesting i'm pond scum to not be compared or mentioned in the same breath as you?   ;D 8)

Okay, so I was right about the trees...as I thought with a northwest locale and climate they would likely be doug firs and certainly the pacnorthest is prime climate for them.

Hummmm...I don't think we are in Kansas any more Toto ;D

Humm...I sense the hint with the grapes and the non native intro...but still struggling and I am actually thinking it could be out of country?

When was this picture taken?

I have no idea where this is, but it looks like a combination of 1980's Perry Dye shaping and I hope that the right rough is native grass and gets a softer look with native grass.

Properties at Photobucket did little for me. :)

Well Pinot grapes are grown in Oregon, but of course Doug Firs are native, so that rules that out. Where is Pinot Noir grown anyway?  ;)

It would appear opposites ends of the political spectrum.

The picture must be relatively recent as the course opens next month.

Well that would be quite the trick as I don't consider myself republican or democrat...I'm still searching for the true path.  I thought we were on our way with Ross Perot, but he bailed on us.   ;D

As to the course, is it somewhere in the Napa Valley region??

I don't keep up much with new projects (unless they're in my immediate vicinity) but the bunkers look Engh-ish.

Kalen,

I doubt they could grow Doug firs in Napa. I recon your wine experts would question growing Pinot in Napa too. However, near Napa, world class Pinot is grown. Unfortunately, the course is nowhere near Napa.

Tim,

Not Engh.

The trees in the bkgd look like Lombardy poplars or English oaks, whatever that buys.

Can we narrow this down to a continent?   ;D

And yes Napa was purely a guess, as I know zero about fine wines and how to distinguish any of them apart.  Beer on the other hand..

A note on the proximity of the Pinot grapes and the Douglas firs.
I don't know the area particularly well (which takes it out of the western US which I have been all around), so the best I can say is that I believe the grapes and firs are within the distance from Reno to San Francisco from the course pictured.

Eastern Maritime Canada or the most northern of the US Northeast.....
Maine, Vt or NH.....and a Dye of some sort of a wannabe on a course that only could afford an excavator or a dozer during construction and chose the former.[but not really because of budjet] ;).

I was surprised how fast Kalen's South African hole was identified. I guess it makes a difference whether or not anyone has had a chance to play the course.

Keep the answers coming. I'll get to them in the morning.

Paul:

Not a chance as Garland said earlier that the picture was relatively recent and the course is supposed to open next month.  I know you now live south, but you haven't forgot the climate where you grew up did you?

Where can we find Douglas Firs growing healthy and Pinot grapes as well??

Garland, how about Colorado? and BTW, as I look at that picture, I wouldn't want to be the super if the course will open in a month :-\...Looks pretty thin.
