How 'bout Miller Island in the middle of the columbia River just east of The Dalles.  Maybe Google would like to invest!

The line is 4,075 yards in length. Whenever I drive by the island I look over and wonder what if you could...?

Isn't that the TPC of The Dalles? (old slag bandoon esoteric)

There is a triangular piece of property on the way down to Big Sur. There's a giant rock resembling Gibraltor. Looks amazing albeit all these spots have almost the same inherent flaw. They are visible from the road, which makes the road visible from them.

There's some amazing linksland immediately adjacent to Pyle & Kenfig. If I remember the holes correctly, you can see the land from the back tee on #14.

I had a discussion with Ian Andrew about this topic a little over a year ago (don't know if he remembers or not!), but he mentioned, and I agree with him, that the best location that will never see a golf course in Ontario is in Pinery Provincial Park on the eastern shore of Lake Huron near Grand Bend.  Here are some photos I've gleaned from the internet.  Try not to drool!! ;D

Chris and others,

There are lots of sites, like the one Chris has shown, that are completely unique habitats. As much as I could easily visualize stunning golf on this site - it should never be a golf course.

By the way that 10 minutes feet from my parents house and I take the kids to walk there every summer. I will always believe not everything should be a golf course.

Bob,

Interesting that you bring up Cavendish, and Green Gables.

I've just received a CD full of interesting photos of the dunes there, on the north shore of PEI, including a few that show the skeleton of a few of the old Stanley Thompson-designed holes in the dunes at Green Gables.

I plan to write about the old Green Gables course - currently being remodelled by Tom McBroom - at my blog some time over the coming weeks. So, stay tuned: www.mingaygolf.blogspot.com
