The "Real" Home Hole
« on: January 26, 2007, 08:46:32 PM »
(I can sense that I will be hit by a barrage of clarification requests and qualifications on this question, but what the heck--I'll leave it open)

On which 18th hole would you like to finish your life's work in playing golf?  It must be a hole you've played before.

I think I'd most likely choose #18 at Pinehurst No. 2.  I love golf courses that end right at the clubhouse.  Furthermore, it's a hole that I'd be proud to call the site of my final par! ;D

Tim — And I thought you were referring to the original "Home Hole" at The Old Course. We must, at least occasionally, take time to reflect that the hole that serves as No. 18 currently was significantly different in days gone by. In fact, not at all the same.

Tim

You are an articulate, bright and mature 16 or 17 year old whose posts are always insightful and well thought out.

As a teenager I'd suggest you harp on the 5000 or so new golf courses you have yet to see and experience in your life of golfing and look for a long and bright future rather then moribund John Kavanaugh-like end of life experiences.

Start by coming down with your dad to join Noel Freeman and me for a round at Yale next season.

18th at Pebble.  Not a bad place to end up.

I will bet that my choice would be the same for more than 1/2 of those on this site.  The course where I learned the game as a young man and played most of my early golf.  For my self this would be the course I caddied at all through my junior high, high school and college days.
