Beverly Hillbilly II
« on: January 16, 2007, 11:25:03 PM »
I'll be flying into Ontario to look at a property in Fontana in the next few weeks.  Any suggestions for a quick 18 would be welcome as I can never figure out Cal drive times.

Oak Quarry is a good call.  It has a few spectacular holes and a few really odd holes but is definitely worth playing.

It is in what most people would think is Fontana although it is probably about 100 yards into the Riverside city limits.

Take the Sierra exit on the 10 freeway in Fontana and go south about 3 miles just over a foothill.

Bogey - Oak Quarry's feature par 3 (15? 16?) is one of the most visually arresting holes you will ever lay eyes on.  Play it!  If you want to venture a little further away the SoCal pair are worth seeing.

Zip out I-10 to Palm Springs and you can catch the incredible wind farm near Desert Dunes and battle the wind there.  Maybe an hour drive.

If you play Oak Quarry, you will not be the first hillbilly tour member it has hosted.

And bring your peashooter for possibly the best rabbit hunting opportunity on the planet.

It's also a pretty good golf course, only minutes from the airport.

Bogie, what type of car/truck/etc are you renting? The reputation of Hillbillies everywhere is riding on your answer. Jed had a mean machine.

Fontana was nicknamed Fontucky in the 70s and 80s so he'll feel right at home at Oak Quarry.

True - Fontana IS the home of a NASCAR track, after all...

I assumed that's what led him to be looking at property in Fontana.

Sister and cousin in one person should make a Hillbilly feel right at home.

Tiger et al,

In honor of my pal DW's success at Riverside, I have rented a white 1976 Chevy Malibu and will bring my magnetic "Gatorade" sign and "88" numerals to attach thereto.

Empire Lakes is right next to the airport and is a good Arnold Palmer test that hosts a Nationwide tour event. Oak Valley in Beaumont is pretty close and is a great test and is usually not crowded or cost you an arm and a leg.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Oak Quarry and Goose Creek are both significantly better than Empire Lakes.  Empire Lakes is characterized by it's beach bunkers and it's eccentric 18th hole.

I would stick to one of those two - if you want pamper golf with some really cool views, Oak Quarry is the ticket.  If you want to enjoy a nice day on the links, walk at a gentle pace, and score well, then go to Goose Creek.

Both, however, have eeeh finishing holes...OQ's is a letdown, and GC's is a catastrophe.

Try to find your way on to Stone Eagle. A good new public course is Escena right in Palm Springs by the airport.
