Round of my Life-How did you play?
« on: January 02, 2007, 04:43:44 PM »
1. Get on OK in new school
2. Get Handicap down to 18
3. Break 80
4. Win a big Competition(Captains Day ect.)
5. Play some new courses
6. Have Fun!!!

I did number 3 today when I shoot 75 in first round of the year in a 30 MPH wind.

Eve though the course was par 66, I still broke my handicap by 19 shot which the "Pope of Slope" says is nearly impossible but I like Tiger or Bob Jones deify all the odds(Not :))

I hope this stays this way for the rest of the year. How has every-one elses Golfing year started.

With an argument about a phantom bunker at one course and a phantom architect at another...

By the way, congratulations...it will get easier each time so keep it up.

Played 9 holes on the 30th here in Chicago.  Shot 36.

Hole 1 - Hit the fairway - made par
Hole 2 - Drove it into the 7th fairway - made par
Hole 3 - Hit the green - made par
Hole 4 - Drove it into the 5th fairway, chunked a chip - made bogey.
Hole 5 - Drove it into the 6th fairway - made birdie
Hole 6 - Hit the green - made par
Hole 7 - Drove it into the 2nd fairway - made par
Hole 8 - Drove it into the 9th fairway - made par
Hole 9 - Drove it into the 8th fairway - made par

I'm not hitting it so straight...in fact, I'm hitting all of my drives about 30 yards left. >:(  Damn one plane swing....

Yesterday I shot 33/43, why do those things happen?
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Played on the 30th at Silverbell in Tucson.  I shot a 74 (+4), but it was possibly the weirdest round I've ever had:

I hit my 8-iron four times during the round -- three times from the middle of the fairway and once from the tee on a par 3.  I made double, double, double, and bogey.

I hit my 2-iron three times -- once from the fairway and twice from the tee on par 3's.  I made birdie, birdie, birdie.

On the remaining 11 holes I hit three 4-irons, one 6-iron, one 7-iron, three 9-irons, two pitching wedges, and one sand wedge.  I made par on every one (hitting 10 of the 11 greens in regulation).

In the last week I have shot 76, 77, 78, and 78.

All on Par-72 layouts.

Thankfully I'm about to start lessons because I am right at the point where I know I could be at par or better.
The birdies come, yet so do the bogies...

With my oldest son and I in a better ball match against my brother in law and nephew on New Years Eve I had 5 birdies and 7 bogeys for a 72.  My best round of the year.  We were giving a lot of strokes but still managed to eke out the win.  A Yeungling for me and a coke for my son.  As great a lager as Yeungling is, free Yeungling tastes even better!

It's called golf.  If you figure it out, please let me in on the secret.  I had a tournament round last year of 41-31, so I know your pain.  The only difference is my 31 came on the back nine and had to leave me feeling much better than yours :)

Spend the time on/around the greens.  You will pick up more shots there than you realize!

Agreed.  I would recommend Dave Pelz' Short Game Bible.

Even if you don't adopt his philosophy completely, you will have a better understanding of how important the short game is, particularly to a low-handicapper (such as Jordan).

I started the new year playing with some fanatical GCA LSU fan at Metairie CC and coming out of the box with a 45 on the front nine in which I put every number up except a 1 and an 8......

I cant tell you how much fun it is to go bogie, quad, par, par, bogie, bogie, birdie, bogie, double........

Needless to say, I will be working on consistancy for the next few decades.......

Metairie is way too much fun to be stuck in Louisiana, it should be somewhere where folks could really appreciate it........ ;D

New Orleans, proud to swim home...........

Several years ago I shot a 9 under par 63 at the course I was working at whilst playing a tournament. 10 birdies, 7 pars and 1 bogey at the only green that I missed. Up on holing my birdie putt at the 17th (my 10th of the day) one of my playing partners asked 'was that a birdie?' I replied 'yes' towhich he said 'oh super, is that the first today'.

I'm playing Olympia Fields tomorrow for my first round of the new year.  It's supposed to be in the mid 50's and I'm hoping to slop my way around the course to a round in the mid 80's.  But in January in Chicago, any round is a good round, regardless of the score!

A few years back in the Deal club championship off the stones I hit 96 shots. On the easier front 9 I had my first 10 in nearly 20 years, followed by an 11 and a 12 to turn in 60 strokes. Those of you that have visited Deal know the back nine is long and rather brutal, well I managed to come back in a level par 36.

Best round ever?? No way, but there is satisfaction in pulling a respectable back nine out of a disaster. As we all know it's far easier to lose a round than recover a tiny bit of pride.
