We'd love to do the restoration if they had any interest, but I think it is a non-starter.  Jim Urbina was out there a year ago and talked to the club professional about it, but he did not think anything could come of it.  I've never seen a town go from 27 holes back to 18; and I had heard that one or two of the old fairways might be considered wetlands now.  If you know any different, please IM me and I'd be glad to discuss it.

Indian Canyon in Spokane, WA designed by H. Chandler Egan.  It hosted three Usga events and is a real fun course, even though its very short, approx 6200 from the back tees.

Its tight and very much a right to left players kind of course.  The greens are old school and from some places 3 putting isn't that bad!

I have never played, as I have never made it, but will do so this year (I hope!)

Its a real treat especially for the price at a low $25.   And to boot its only a couple of miles from the airport.

If you have extra time, take a look at Johnny Millers course just down the road from there called The Creek at Qualchan.  Got a couple of goofy holes but a fun course to play.  There is also the resort course at CDA which is indeed a resort course, but the conditioning is 2nd to none that I've every played.  Also home to the famous, or infamous depending on your viewpoint, floating green.

If you have extra time, make your way down to Worley where they have Circling Raven which made the top ten you can play list a couple of years back.

Obviously I must once again say the State Park Golf Trail in Kentucky has three real gems. Dale Hollow Lake and Hidden Cove as well as always Eagle Ridge are exceptional, and at $42 peak they are great bargains. Put them near a big city or in a Coastal State, and they are $125 and up.

And you 'don't hear about them', that's certain  .

Some really good courses you don't hear about-
West Bend (front nine), north of Blue Mound and more fun.
Gateway(Ft.Myers,FL) some of the best work from the Fazio crew.
The Hideout in Naples, recently experienced by Mr. and Mrs. Redanman.
Black Forest, my favorite Doak in Michigan.
Second the nomination of Rancho Santa Fe, Indian Creek and Monroe Muny.
We could also include a number of courses on Long Island- nassau, garden city cc, sands point, cherry valley, etc.
Since Jordan asked- how about Sudden Valley?

Gateway? Wow, I don't believe I would have it in the top 20 courses in the Ft. Myers-Naples area that is not exaclty bursting with great golf. Lots of golf-yes... nice clubs-yes... perfectly manigure courses-yes but not great golf by any means. Gateway does have nice proximity to the airport though.

I'll stand by my comment that Gateway is one of Fazio's best designs. Much better than his recent efforts in Southwest FL. and perhaps his #3 course in FL behind John's Island West and WW Pine Barrens. Gateway lacks glitz but it's bones are strong.

Waverly CC, Portland OR  (has hosted USGA events, including one of Tiger's Junior AMs)
Merion West, Suburban Philly (total fun and a lot of wonderful architecture)
CC of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY (Ross course with quarry features like Merion East)

My uncle's old house backed up to the CC of Buffalo -- he used to take us over there for lunch, but he wasn't much of a golfer, so I never played it, unfortunately. It looked real cool. I think Whitten has written that he likes the course's use of the quarry better than at Merion East.

I am convinced that Langford or his associates designed and/or built the course, though it is not attributed to him and no one at the club knows the architect of record.  I'll bet it was untouched until LaFoy's work.   Haven't seen it since then.

How about Lookout Mountain GC?  I just played there for the first time last week and I thought it was great.  I know that before it was restored there were very few bunkers and alot of the intended strategy was not there but now that it is all done I thought it was a great course in a spectacular setting.  

I was reading Ran's profile afted I played the course, anyone know if there are still talking about adding the Sahara bunker to the Alps hole, extending the Biarritz green and adding a bunker around the back and sides of the Short?

in the Boston area, there is "The Wright"  The George Wright Golf Course which is a very good, old Donald Ross course that is a muny- could be dusted off and spuced up to showroom quality but a "hidden gem" (imho)
