Images of the new 18th at The Ocean Course
« on: October 01, 2002, 06:51:58 AM »
Keeping in mind that I am not much of a photographer :P, here is a link to some photos of the new 18th at The Ocean Course.  Also keep in mind that the natural grasses to the left and front of the green have just been planted and will not always have that "hair plug" look.  By next summer they will fill in to look like the grasses behind the green and in the foreground:

For ease, here they are.  I'd like to see a pic from the tee, to
see the new dogleg right and the entire hole.

We would need to have an aerial for that and I don't have the $850 an hour for the helicopter...  However, we plan to do some aerial shots later this month.  When we get them, I'll post them...

While I have your attention, we just had 50 or so GolfWeek raters here for their annual "Rater's Cup."  Hopefully, we can get some of the Golf Digest Panelists who lurk on this site here before your ballots are due December 31st....  I think you'll like the changes, especially to No. 2, 4 and 18...

No worries about Golf Magazine, Mike?  ;)

Just giving you a hard time.  I'm a GD rater and believe me if I didn't live 3000 miles away and/or didn't have two kids who like Daddy to be home, I'd be there tomorrow.  From all accounts you have an absolute gem there and the changes are wonderful.

In the last picture of the sequence, you can see what looks like a deformation in the bunker, where a 3 foot semi-circular "chunk" is missing from the bunker/rough wall.

It leaves a little finger of turf no more than a foot or so wide on the left edge so I must assume it is an area the is still under repair.  True?

I think we've had a grand total of 8 Golf Magazine panelists here in the last 2 years and 6 of those were here for the UBS Warburg Cup (Strange, Palmer, Player, Nobilo, Aioki and Oosterhaus -- Nicklaus had to pull out because of back problems...).  Ran keeps trying to get them here but not too many bite...

Not sure.  I didn't notice it while I was taking the shots...  It might just be the angle that the photo was taken because I probably would have noticed ground under repair as I spent about 1/2 an hour running around taking shots.

For old times sake, here is a picture I had of the old 18.

What happened to the old green, is completely gone?

I am sure once some of the grasses grow in around the bunkers, you will have that same rugged look the old 18 had.
