I too received Golf's Royal Clubs for Christmas and agree with you Sean, that its quite good from my flicking through so far. I did though notice that the aerial graphic for Royal Porthcawl shows the old 12th green rather than the new one. I seem to be cursed with the ability to spot such things but cant proof read or check my own work for toffee!
Thanks James for the comment. We tried really hard to ensure all the plans are up to date and accurate. As you can imagine it was a difficult process as we created the plans over a 2.5 yr timeframe, and within that period golf clubs were making adjustments to their course/s and so we had to try and keep up. An example was at Royal Adelaide, where even in the weeks prior to publishing the book, I was talking with Tom Doak and sending sketches to his onsite GCA (Brian Slawnik) to try and get the new 17th hole into our book. I think we got this one right....
All the plans were all based on aerial imagery and created by a GCA in the States and myself and cross checked by the golf clubs. Indeed, we sent each club chapter to each club and asked them to proof the chapter to ensure there were no errors. This helped, but of course, it is difficult to catch everything, and we are aware of a few little typos.
It was incredibly important to me and the R&A that
Golf's Royal Clubs is accurate so I hope people can be reassured that this big book on an important topic is a true reflection of the royal club, their courses and the process of attain the title itself.
We are very proud of the book, and thanks you to everyone who has bought it.
