"We all know how crap the average tour stop is"

Lloyd Cole,

Do you really believe this?  Or were you being facetious?

If you are being serious, you must have great pity on the rest of us who would love to become accustomed  to that less than average fare.

Adam,

Tiger doesn't like Medinah or Firestone-South?

My point, and maybe it should be its own thread, is that in my opinion, one cannot and should not, with any bit of reliability, opine on whether or not they enjoy a course without playing it.   It's like a doctor diagnosing a patient without ever seeing him/her.  It lacks reliability and credibility.

Ryan, I agree.  In fact, I don't see how one can disagree.  But, I think I'm entitled to say, based on watching television, that Medinah, Firestone, the Belfry and the K Club don't appear to be courses that I'd be especially interested in playing.  Just as many people here said, based only on photos, that they liked the looks of Mike Young's new course in the Atlanta area.  I never gave an opinion about whether I enjoyed playing Medinah--I haven't played it.  But, I can say that I don't enjoy watching golf tournaments played at Medinah.

Tim:  I don't want to beat a dead horse as you have rightfully put your comments into the appropriate context and I can appreciate that.

But reread your first post.  The context was missing.  In fact, all you said what that "Medinah and Firestone epitomize boring golf."

It's cool though...let's move on.  You are still welcome at Medinah. ;D

Ryan,

I guess I thought that I supplied the context when I said that I had never played Firestone or Medinah, ergo, I'm only commenting as a viewer.

You're right to some extent, though--maybe I should moderate my comments when my perspective is incomplete.

Lou
Absolutely, and I'm quite happy up here playing old New England nine holers.
OK - If invited, I'd be delighted to play Riviera, Pebble, Torrey Pines (out of interest, don't know if I'd like it), Mirasol, Bay Hill, Quail Hollow, Westchester, Muirfiled Village, Cog Hill, East Lake. These are not the avaerage, they are the cream.

Correction - what YOU constitute as fun.  There are millions of golfers in the world that have fun playing courses with forced carries, soft greens and lush green fairways.  I've heard more clubhouse and locker room talk about how "Herb backed a ball up from the back of the green all the way off the front" than about "Herb's bump and run shot that went it."

What part of that do you think is just ignorance. If all people see on TV is the aerial game, then that's all they know to comment about. Playing a short par 5, I hit a nice bump and run for my third to kick in range for a birdie. What did I hear from the adjoining tee? Great result for a missed shot!

Ryan, Funny how you make the leap that i'm a hater. You doth protest too much. All I ever said was that Chicago golf is seriously deficient, in quality. But now, thanks to Dan Moore's wonderful Chicagoland exercises, I can see where I was in err. Has Dan done one on Medinah?

I'm not back tracking,or fishing for an invite to Medinah, I have zero interest in the place, but, if you'd like, I'll call up my Pritzker family ties and see if they can get you out at Exmoor?

Lou, Tiger will never admit to not liking any course where he's won. My opinion was that his public comments about those places, when they happened, smacked of BS. Juxtaposed to his post tooney comments at Hoylake, which seemed genuine and weren't procceded by a question.

Now that Toger has been asked a direct question, without any particular venue starring over his shoulder, after he's hung out his design shingle, he answered Geoff honestly and in much the same way he spoke about Royal Liverpool..

The "hack it out with a lobwedge" comment solidified a description of the standard maintenance presentation at typical American Venues. K-Club included.

Hopefully people will pay close enough attention. But I suspect in this one area the selfishness of the predictable lovers will win out, again.

If Robert Tyre Jones couldn't convince "them" no one can/will.

Touche'  - Yes, I now know the Pritzkers are Jewish and those of the Jewish creed are not permitted to be members at Exmoor.  I believe that fact alone proves the intent of my post re: Exmoor.

And I didn't label you a hater - one must only search your past posts on Medinah to correctly form that opinion.  ;D  I thought we got past this though?

As such, Adam is a stauch hater so his bias always shines through.  [Adam and I have worked through these issues though] :)

My Bad. If I knew what a Stauch was, I'm sure I wouldn't hate it.
