How can I get rid of COUTS ?
« on: December 05, 2006, 11:23:40 AM »
It's an annual problem but this year we seem to have far more couts eating up our grass.  Without using a shotgun, is there any way to discourage them?  Unfortunately, among the couts we also have ONE ROSS's GOOSE, which was identified last week as the FIRST ONE EVER to be this far south, this has caused my plan of mixing seed and poison to be scrapped.

I'm no doctor, but I believe a shot of penicillin should do the trick.  :o

Before doing anything, check with your EPA agencies and F&G agencies to make sure you don't run "afoul" of the law.

Get a border collie, it's amazing how well they work. Then again if it's personal go to the doctor....

San Diego seems to be a very popular wintering spots for Couts. Many courses here run a series of monofilament lines connected to stakes across their ponds forming a diamond shaped pattern spaced at about two foot intervals. It is fairly effective, as these birds need to be able to land and take off on water. They must be the toughest, most foul tasting bird on the planet, for they seem to fear nothing!

Two questions:

1. Are we talking about COOTS?

2. Why can't anyone spell?

If this were my problem (COOTS, that is, not spelling; I have no idea what I'd do if spelling were my problem), I'd get my S moving and tell 'em to SCOOT!

Of course there's the definitive recipe for making the best tasting Cout.

It's cooked on a very hot rock that has been on the fire for a good amount of time.

When the rock is very very hot, sautee spinach with alittle (or alot) of garlic. Place the spinach on the rock and the Cout on the Spinach.

Serve, Rock and all. Discard Cout and eat the Rock. Yummy!
