In memory of Dr. Henry Terrie
« on: November 25, 2006, 02:27:44 PM »
I learned this week that Dr. Henry Terrie passed away in early November.  Dr. Terrie was a friend of this site, and a friend to all who loved golf architecture.  Dr. Terrie was a long-time resident and member of Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston, SC.  He was a great steward to Yeamans Hall, serving as Chairman of the Green Committe from 1987 to 1998.  It was during this period that the course enjoyed a great renaissance.  Dr. Terrie also served as Trustee of the Friends of Seth Raynor Fund, which was created to be a financial vehicle for the improvements that were to be made to the golf course.

Ran was fortunate enough to include an interview with Dr. Terrie in this site's Feature Interview section, which can be found in the May of 2001 interview archive.

Dr. Terrie was a gentleman, a scholar (he chaired the Dartmouth College Department of English Literature), a golfer, and a friend to many.  Sharing a round of golf with Henry was a completely enjoyable experience.  He will be missed.

Dr. Terrie took over the Chairmanship of the Literature Dept. from my freshman english professor, Arthur Jensen, another fine teacher.  He always made one feel at home at Yeamans Hall.
