You cheeky mug! Two holes at Merion West under 130 yards? That must be quite unusual, especially with both on the back nine. Are there any other really good courses with two sub 130 yard par 3s? Goodale, I have excluded Painswick.
Ciao
Sean,
Actually, although I don't have the card in front of me, the 6th at Merion West is about 115 yards, and about 70 feet downhill over a creek that winds around the left side. Truly a brilliant hole nobody would ever design today. The 17th is about 130 on the nose, to a perched, well bunkered green.
Interestingly, the other two par threes are pretty lengthy...the 6th is about 210, but fairly downhill, and the 15th is around 230.
The entire course is 5900 or so yards, playing to a par of 70, but due to yardage dispersion, topography, and some wonderful design features, it plays much longer and is quite a good course in its own right.
