Scotland from the air
« on: November 30, 2006, 01:31:46 PM »
This is very patchy - Google Earth doesn't cover much of Scotland in high resolution and cloud covers other areas.  I am afraid that TOC, Carnoustie, Dornoch and Turnberry are not there, but some of the Ayrshire coast big ones are, and most of the big names in and around Edinburgh.  Glasgow is well covered.  I hope this will please Alfie and Richard and no doubt they will be able to provide a commentary.  It's a big list so, like All Gaul, it will be divided into three parts.

Mark,
192.com has access to another image database. There's loads of UK courses here not encumbered by clouded views.

Click and keep zooming in on your area of interest. It'll turn to photos eventually.

Martin,  Thanks for that.  Between us we'll gradually get the thing cracked.  You started me off on this, you blighter, with your aerial of Home Park/Hampton Court Palace.  I've just posted a few classic Belgian courses.

Martin, I tried Cruden Bay, Dornoch and Brora and it said there were no images available, but the ones I tried of Sandwich and Deal were first class - what a bomb site R St G's looks in its burnt-up state.  I got images of St Andrews and Carnoustie, too.  Is it UK only?  Mark.

Mark,
tis you who the blighter art. What with those pictures of Skagen. I am still in a state of shock!

192 appears to run out of steam further north and west, but makes up for it in what it does have. Carnoustie is great, isn't it?

As a small aside, I have all of the Fife Courses from the Council GIS system, which is very up to date (flown this past summer). I also have a great deal of the Fife 1940s RAF aerial set which has the ORIGINAL EDEN routing. Tommy N and I have jointly salivated over it already. If you'd like copies or a perusal, let me know.

FBD.
