Artificial Greens
« on: October 23, 2006, 07:32:41 AM »
A friend of mine is buying an artificial green for use mainly to practise his chipping and pitching.

Does anybody have much experience of this type of green?

How long is their life-cycle?

I thought compaction might be an issue, synthetic greens can't be cored or aerated, is there a similar procedure that can be done to them?

Padraig,
We just built a three hole course using artificial greens.  There are so many different kinds to look at.  Some are very receptive to golf shots and some are not.  If taken care of, they will last many years.  I believe the ones we put in carry a five year warrenty.  Also, you can use different materials for your subgrade depending on how you plan to use the surface.
