Has "National Golf Links of Oregon" been offered yet?
The NGLO.

This is soooooo cool! I can't wait to see this finished.

Opening day has to be a match play event of some type.
With no practice rounds for the participants.

Just ran across this in the 1916 American Annual Golf Guide.

NEW YORK—LIDO GOLF CLUB (LONG BEACH, L. I.).
Estd. 1916. Holes—18. Length—6,424 yds. Grass greens. Club con-
trolled by The Lido Corporation. Directors, Frederic Bull, Henry W. Bull
Thomas De Witt Cuyler, Robert Goelet, R. H. Neilson, E. T. Stotesbury,
Harold R. Talbot, Cornelius Vanderbilt, H. R. Winthrop. Twenty-five
mites from New York on L. I. R. R. Club is in process of organization; course ready for play summer of 1916.

If it does somehow replicate the Lido, they could JUST wait 6 more years and open on the centenary.  ;)

Catherine Zeta Jones was in Ocean's 12. Looked good too.

I like CZJ! Much better then Julia Roberts playing....UGH!...Julia Roberts.

I didn't see Ocean's 12 and didn't know CZJ was in it.....

definitely gets the nod over Ms. Roberts...and she golfs too!!!!
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

What if Keiser then decides to do another tribute course?

I know. They could do this fourth course as half Macdonald tribute, half Doak tribute.

Call it Macdonald Doak. (How's that for a Mickey Mouse name?)

... with a quack-quack here, and a quack-quack there, here a quack, there a quack, everywhere a quack-quack, Old Macdonald had a Doak, T-D-O-A-K!

I'm shocked none of you have thought of this... I'm also shocked that it seems so obvious to me....

New MacDonald.

It's a recreation of sorts, right?  There's nothing old about it....

It seems naming golf courses is not what we do best on here. Congratulations to Mike K and Tom for this soon to be course. I am concerned that whatever is built on that parcel of land will pale compared to the other 3 courses. There is no question short of a change to the already approved land plan none of the course will be on or really in view of the ocean. I do think this strategy driven thinking mans course is as good an idea as I have heard for land utilization. I am equally concerned though how Tom and Jim will keep the greens styles which go with the concept playable in the winds one gets in Bandon. I guess toned down a bit.

Can such a tribute course be made with many/all of the template holes without the distinctly geometric bunker shapes and still achieve the "tribute" aspect?

Will the uniqueness of these holes on this new course come from the look of the bunkers or from strategic tweaks/alterations to the original template holes?

Cheers,
Brad

Dan - thought of it, I'm sure... posted it?  I can't see such... maybe I missed it. So the credit is mine, for better or for worse.

And sure, it too is not the best name... but I think it's a lot better than Old Macdonald... which really adds nothing except cutesy-ness and doesn't convey what's really happening...

Dan - I'm sure you're weeping large tears over this one.

 ;D

And well... creativity in things like this is not my forte - I just do agree with you, I think Old Macdonald is a bad name on a lot of levels.  But it does remain early in the process... I bet it won't stick.

Old Macdonald is just a cute "working title"

Once common sense prevails, it will end up being called something like:
"The Macdonald Course at Bandon Dunes"
Next!

I think you are absolutely right, Anthony.  It will end up being called something like that.. likely just "the Macdonald course."

Bandon Dunes
Pacific Dunes
Bandon Trails
Macdonald Course

That works.

I'd just call it The New Course.

Then, if they do a 5th course, there will be confusion ala The New Course at St. Andrews, and in 50 years we cam all tell new golfers that it isn't really new, just newer than the others.

I don't see anything wrong with changing the visual while keeping the strategy intact and calling it a tribute course. I don't see the need for excat replicas.

I'm excited to see what a few talented modern guys can do with these ideas/templates.

I'm partial to "The Farm."

It was the name for the secret CIA training grounds and clearly Old Macdonald had a farm.  If you get the joke, you will get the course.  If not, you probably should be playing somewhere else.
And I took full blame then, and retain such now.  My utter ignorance in not trumpeting a course I have never seen remains inexcusable.
