I'd love to see a review of Shadow Creek sometime; just a wonderful experience. SF Club might be difficult, but what a pictoral it would make...

Obviously, few appreciate the time and effort it takes to do these reviews, interviews and all the other stuff being one of golf's most beloved figures demands.

Lighten-up guys. Ran and his elfs are just like you. Very busy people.

Ran,

I can't remotely promise access to San Francisco Golf Club, but I have an idea of how I might be able to help you get on.  Send me a private message if you are interested in exploring the possibility.

Ran has played SFGC already at least once. Access is not a problem for golf's most beloved figure. If the search feature worked well and if the oldest threads were saved you could read some "discussions" between Ran and others regarding the merits of SFGC.  Ran only reviews courses that he sees in a totally positive light.

Along the lines of the municipal reviews, I would love to see what Ran has to say about Wintonbury Hills. (Even more intriguing would be a comparison to Gillette Ridge to follow up on Ron Whitten's article in which he gave Gillette the nod.)

I couldn't find any sort of mission statement that directs the selection of these courses for review. Do the courses need to be examples of great architecture?

If not, I'd like to see some reviews of controversial courses or a course that tried but failed. Given Ran's broad exposure to courses all over the world, I'd like to his take—from an architecture stanpoint, not conditioning—on why a course is bad. Pereferably a high profile or hyped layout that, on paper, should have been a success but due to poor routing, design choices, mounding, boring greens, poorly placed harzards, repetitious holes, etc., just doesn't work.

Mr. Clayman,

I don't get the impression that the contributors to this thread are not understanding of the effort involved in authoring the course reviews on this website. It seems to me that everybody is merely offering their wishlist of places they would like to experience vicariously, or perhaps for a second time from someone else's persepective. Hopefully we are giving him some good ideas so that he will be able to improve the course review section for the benefit of all.

Kyle, It boils down to a form of pressure to make the requests a reality.

I don't assume to speak for others, just commenting on what little I know of the situation.

Adam

That's a crock!  Anyone who knows and loves golf's most beloved figure realizes that to prod, tease and laugh with and at him is all part of the give and take process of dealing with him. Lighten up. Ran will do what his time and schedule allow.  He has received many a good tip as to where to play and his list of Next 50 reflects this process.

I've seen the course reviews section and is this a "Ran" only section?

Being a newb i've had the impression that submitting course reviews is open to anyone and then up to Rans discretion if he wants to post it to the website or not.

Can anyone provide clarification on this?

THanks

Kalen,

Welcome to GCA.com. I believe that the Courses by Country/Architect are done by Ran and his fellow Morrissetts. You're encouraged to submit "My Home Course" pieces or "In My Opinion" pieces.

I don't know about "Colorado National," listed on Ran's next 50. Perhaps he means Colorado Golf Club, or is Trump doing a course here that we don't know about... :o ::) ?

Happy New Year.

Thanks Doug,

I appreciate the clarification!!

I would love to see him review some courses that he DOESN'T like. There are so few people on this site who are willing to call out the emperor when he isn't wearing any clothes. Come on, Ran...let's see some fun stuff. I think we learn a lot criticizing the misses.

Does anyone know why Ran has not reviewed Ballybunion Old? Is it because it's overdone, or was there something about it that didn't meet his tastes?

Huntington used to be on the next 50 list. I would KILL to see a review from Ran on that place.

Bull's Bay
Atlantic City
Bandon Trails
Glen Abbey
CC of Buffalo
DuPont (Wilmington, DE), which has just undergone a significant restoration/redux (not sure what category it'd be in)
Bulle Rock

I'd also be interested to see what he thinks about KBM's Lederach (which I thouroughly enjoyed).

And it's gimmicky, but I thought well executed - Architects Club in NJ (I think Ron Whitten played a role here).

While he's in the Charleston area reviewing Yeamans Hall, Ran needs to come back and update his Country Club of Charleston review.  It was closed all last summer for a restoration which turned out great (I played it right before Christmas)...
