Cheap Hotel's in Bandon
« on: September 26, 2006, 07:52:21 PM »
...around the Bandon area.

Does anybody have any information on some cheap hotels in the Bandon/Coos Bay area?

Yes I know I should stay at the resort but as I am trying to plan a last minute trip for November and I need to find something cheap.  Any help on some decnt/nice, cheaper hotel's or places to stay would be appreciated.  As of now there are two of us going on this trip.

Thanks

Jordan, this sort of blatant access seeking is frowned upon here at GCA.

If you can't get into a good enough hotel on your own good merits, you'll just have to deal with the public hotels.

Jordan,

I don't see how you can save any money given the stay and play combo's...Do you have any special greenfee deals going on..note: I got a good rate at the casino in town.

Is the resort sold out?

At around 200/night for a Lily Pond room, and the money saved on greens fees, range balls, etc, along with time saved make it almost closer to a wash than you'd think.

I'm not sure you'd find anything cheap enough that is at the same time both decent and nice to really merit staying elsewhere.

Well, rates for November are 150 for resort guests and 200 for non-guests...plus the replay restriction for non-guests.

So, for 2 people, automatically you're talking about 100 bucks a day at least, plus whatever range balls you hit, plus the fact that you'd have to play the same course if you were planning a replay.

I realize I'm not helping find alternate lodging, but the price differential isn't as large as one might initially think.

Hotels.com shows rooms from $38 a night...and the great thing for Jordan is that kids stay free..

Jordan,

I would suggest staying in one of the numerous seaside state parks or campgrounds. We stayed in a RV on a family vacation and the coast is pretty incredible. If you don't have access to a RV don't worry there's plenty of tent camping.

That would be pretty sweet.
I do not know if I am still in the kid category (I have already lost junior green fee priveleges at two courses :'() but if I am still a 'kid' the heck yes and $38 a night would be great!

Bill,

A tent would be fun, but during winter (we are heading down in November) it gets awfully cold, and also I would like to take a shower (do they have showers at the sampground?)
Good idea, but due to the fact it will get really cold, I think it would be better to stay in a cheap hotel.
I do have to admit, though, that would a great idea for a summer Bandon trip!!

Jordan,

In the hotel business you are still a kid...so how much are greenfees for you if you don't stay at the resort..

LOL

Nope, not running away, and not a family trip either.
Going with another GCA'er if we can figure everything out.

I am sooooo excited!

Check out Coquille.  It's about 10 miles inland in Rt. 42S.

The weather may be better for your family.  Bandon could be socked in, but Coquille can be sunny.

$200 bucks, and same day replay is only allowed on the course you played for your morning round.

I would not stay in Coquille. The only motel I have used in Bandon is the Harborview. Coos Bay/North Bend has a wide choice of lodgings and is about 30 minutes away. The beds in Motel 6 are just as comfortable as the ones in the Red Lion at half the price.

PS. You use of the apostrophe in the title is unwarranted. There is no posssessive.

Let me know the dates you'll be down. I'm there 18-20 Nov.

Carl Spackler stayed in the maintenance shed ... Rudy slept in an office underneath the bleachers in Notre Dame Stadium ... I'd recommend finding the 50-year old female masseuse that many have spoken about ...

Proceed at your own risk.  I can't say that the sleep was the best I've ever had.

Jordan,

Just go on the internet and find the site for the town of Bandon and under that there will be a section for hotels. As I recall there were several which were reasonable.

Problem is, as some of the GCAers have pointed out, you get a favourable rate for green fees if you stay at the Lodge or one of the cottages, even though they seem expensive.

Get Sean to cough up his Visa card no. and you can get a reservation at the Lodge.

Good luck and send me an email if you are stuck.

My son and I once stayed at the Best Western Inn at Face Rock at the south end of town.  It's modern and clean.  Price for November appears to be $110, but they have a promotion:

"Stormwatcher's Special

From October 25th through May 15th, mention the "Stormwatcher's Special" and receive 50% off any room rate."

You can do the math on the break even for staying on the property.

Jordan,
I learned my lesson over in Porthcawl, Wales.

Check it out:

Security for our neighbors' room was a bit suspect:

Our "deluxe" room featured ensuite facilities.  But rather than clean the sickeningly moldy tile and repair the caulk, they simply plexi'd the entire shower.

...which was in the closet.  Now I know where the term "water closet" came from.

I second the Best Western at Face Rock.

I stayed there for 2 out of 5 nights of my trip because those two nights were sold out at the resort.

The hotel was more than adequate.

An added bonus to the Best Western was that our room was literally 20 steps from the first tee at the Bandon Face Rock Golf Course, which is quite a charming nine holer. Worth playing as your "morning walk" before heading over to Bandon Dunes Resort for your main rounds.

Jordan,

Try the Sunset Motel.  It's across the street from the ocean, overlooking some sea stack rocks.  It's nothing special, but clean and affordable.  I stayed there on my first trip to Bandon, when they had few rooms at the resort and they were sold out.

Jordan, the Bandon Inn (www.bandoninn.com) is a great option at $75 a night or so.  Just keep in mind that you'll likely pay more for golf at the resort if you stay off property, and the replay rates/policies aren't as good.  Factor that in when you consider the total cost of your trip.

Michael - How much per night did you pay to stay at this palace?

Right now we are seriously contemplating staying at the resort, due to smaller greens fees and replay..

Is Chrome Lake as good as Lily Pond, or vice/versa?
Are they both nice places?
They are the two places to stay on the resort, as the website says.

Thanks.
