Darwin, Wind, Who?
« on: September 27, 2006, 09:51:51 PM »
Great Quote! Who said this about Golf?

"It is a contest,  or a melee, calling for courage, skill, strategy, and self control. It is a test of temper; a trial of honor; and a revealer of character. It affords the chance to act the gentleman or play the man. It means going into God's out-of-doors, getting close to nature, fresh air, a sweeping away of mental cobwebs, and genuine relaxation of the tired tissues. It's a cure for care, and an antedote to worry. It includes companionship with friends, social intercourse, opportunities for kindness and generosity to an opponent. It promotes not only physical health, but moral force."

Great stuff!
Who wrote;
   'How that exhibition of flawless golf lifted everyone! Usually, when a long tournament day is over, the galleries plod for the exits tired in eye and limb, but there were no weary steps that evening. Hogan sent us home as exhilarated as schoolboys."

Who wrote it and what was he talking about?

Bob,
Yes it was Wind in Following Through.
This was a great short article on Hogan's 30 on the back nine at Augusta on the Saturday of the 1967 Masters. Great little story and could he ever tell a story!

It's called, "The Golfer's Creed" by David Forgan.
