Kukui'ula in Kauai - A couple of pics
« on: March 12, 2011, 05:57:50 PM »
Last week I was in Kauai and was able to preview some of the holes at the new Weiskopf designed Kukui'ula course on the south side of the island.  The course looked fantastic with very undulated and intriguing greens and blinding white sand imported from Cambodia.  I took a couple of photos, including one of the driveable par four 14th hole that likely will gain "signature" status.  Interestingly, they have small gardens planted on virtually every hole; coffee on one hole, pineapple on another, etc.  The course currently gets some play from members but won't "officially" be open until this summer as they let the grass grow in better and make sure all their drainage is working properly to handle the big rains that Kauai is known for.  It is a DMB property, so there is no debt and a long term vision for the project.  In the winter, views of whales jumping in the ocean will be a thrilling experience for guests.  I wish I could report on the entire course, but here are a couple of pics at least:

Importing sand from Cambodia to Hawaii.

And they wonder why golf gets a bad name.

Thanks for the report! This is near what 'town', etc? I thought I knew Kauai, but that one completely sneaks past me...last there two years ago.

So it will be open for public play? It will be no kukuiolono "chicken ranch"  :)

it's over by Poipu and it's a high end housing development.  I doubt it's going to be public but it this economic environment you never know.

Thanks, Joel. Looked at the site; at 2.3$ mil for 2200sqft, there will be other places to tee it up on Kauai! I can see why they haven't had a luxury destination/resort in 10 years...
