Hi Jug
There is a very fameous pub in Kilkullen called The Hideout. I think they may have done it up, though, which would be a shame.
I have been there a few times during the day, but it was a long time ago now. They used (maybe they still have) have the preserved arm of a bare knuckle boxer called Donnely. He was world champion, or something like that. His arms were so long that he could tie his britches without bending his knees or back.
In Lucan, there's the Angler's Rest and the Strawberry Hall - both very old pubs. It's not too far away.
In the centre of Dublin, there are hundreds of pubs. If you go toward St. Stephen's Green, you'll be near some good pubs like Doheny and Nesbits, Toners and O'Donoghue's (around baggot street). Off Grafton Street, there's Keoghs, The Bailey, Neary's, Sheehans, and lots more. There are also lots of good places to eat around there, although it might be a bit on the expensive side.
My advice would be to stay away from Temple Bar, though. Lots of stag parties etc.
