why would I go to the Dunvegan?  Perhaps because my GCA friends would want to go there.  Did I visit the Dunvegan in May 2006?  No.  It didn't seem like St Andrews to me.  But, if I was there with some American friends who felt at home there, so be it.

I concur with the Fosters cringe.   I can't recall the last 'Fosters' that I drank anywhere in the world (certainly not in OZ), or a VB for that matter.  And my home club might be serving 'Fosters' product shortly.  Some will argue that it is an improvement on the Southwark 'green death'.  Perhaps it will be Coopers Pale Ale for me after golf in the future. 8)

Chris, I'd love to have a drink in the Jigger in a few weeks time.  I'm happy to buy you a pint, or two, as long as you don't spill it over whatever I bring! ::)

James, I'm relieved to hear that you're not a Dunvegan 'type'.  I worry about our GCA friends who are, especially when they spend so little time in St Andrews.  On reflection they might be better off going to the Stables to see a real Scottish pub (no windows!!) in the ninety seconds before they're beaten up!

I'm certainly partial to a pint in the Jigger - but keep the books and magazines at home!

Brian, I want no part of the 'dirty old man' routine you talk of!

Chris, I suggested the Dunvegan because (1) it's very convenient and very hard to miss, and (2) I've been in love with Sheena since the first time I met her.  

I never worry about the crowd in a pub, I try to bring my own crowd with me!

Any of the places you mention are fine.  But let's rendezvous there Wednesday after the first Old Course round for convenience sake.

Just a suggestion guys but I think!! St Andrews Golf Club does weekly memberships and it may be worth a phone call.
It is sited to the right of the 18th green of the Old Course and does good food etc.

What a bloody good idea, Mr A. How cool would it be for this happy band to assemble over a Belhaven in that fine old bar overlooking the auld lady.
And the added opportunity of perhaps buying you a pint and hearing about your current exploits is, well, priceless!!!

Spent this afternoon in the company of one K B Moran, esq wandering the links of TOC, taking pics, shootin the breeze and generally having a damn good time. Sunday walks on TOC have to be one of THE great pleasures of the world of golf.

Unable to get a table in the Links clubhouse for a bite to eat, we jumped in the car and headed for Kingsbarns - supposedly via No. 7. However, we didn't get past the new course. Spent a goodly long time wandering around, mostly trying to get to grips with the - shall we say - 'challenging' architecture. No comments from me for the moment. Suffice it to say, I can't wait to hear how the great british golfing public react.

I have to work monday/tuesday, but can't wait to meet up with fellow Revtoccers 2007 Revellers on wednesday!!

you need an internet PC, an ability to put in a camera to dump the photos, and more importantly the time to do it.  I'd rather spend more time going out to view \Kingsbarns and ~7 (the Castle) and Crail, and drink in the bars with friends, than post on GCA.  I'll be a slacker for another week!

Oh, by the way, the sleet at ~7 this morning was bitterly cold, but the town is quite nice.  Martin and I (and Mike Christensen) are in Reverse in 2 hours 15 minutes time.  Bill Mc Bride is on ~5 (the par 5) of 'the left hand course' at present.

Chris Kane - if you see this, that pint at the Jigger is still on.  I finish golf about 7.30 tonight, and will be at Ziggi's for dinner at 8pm (I think).

I thought there was more of us.  I know that some did East Lothian, some did St Andrews and some did both.It was an unforgettable week, despite the cold weather.  North-Easters off the North Sea make for chilly weather.
Martin - one of my favourite trips, although the preceding games at North Berwick with Panhandle and then at Muirfield (Andrew Mitchell I think) were nearly as good.

ps I think I described the Reverse as 'dancing with your wife's twin sister'.  It all looked very similar, but the play was completlely different.  Also, Peter Pittock, having Fawlty Towers on was truly bizzare and fun.

Interesting to read this thread again and 10 pages of excitement but then *&^% zero..not a comment really on what is was actually like. I walked it once and thought it was pretty poo, only reverse 12 was better and a few that were nearly as good early on. A true reverse IMO would not use the 1st green or the 16th (part) and no hole to the current 6th (part). Maybe time and the set up for the course we know has taken some shine off it.

As one that did East Lothian but not COT, that was indeed a good couple of days and, I believe, my first ever GCA get together.  Memories, eh?
