Playing at COT (Reverse TOC  ;))

Martin Bonnar
James Bennett
Chris (?Kane)

James B

James,
Chris K(urzner) has had to withdraw. Some lame excuse about having to work or something... ;)
Chris Kane on the other hand, is still, I believe, in for the event, albeit in another group. Lucky us, we'll probably now be paired with a couple of course-baggers from Deliverance-country. :o

We now have eight players for Muirfield on 3/27.

James Bennett - Adelaide, AUS
David Mulle - New York City
John Krystynak - Palo Alto
Bill McBride - Pensacola
Tony Muldoon - London
Mark Pearce - Newcastle, England
Phillip Gwaith - London
Michael Christensen - Atlanta

Richard Goodale has expressed interest in a third group.  Do we have any takers?

We will also be playing Monday 3/26 at North Berwick for those with time and interest.  ;D

Bill - this is likely one of the most unnecessary statements ever made in the long august history of this forum, but...

that is going to be a LOT of fun.

I've regaled the forum many times here about the fantastic time my group of 12 college buddies had doing the full day at Muirfield.  I really think it very close to the top of the "must do golf things in one's life" list.  You guys are going to have a ball.

Oh, would that life allowed me to do such things... adding into Goodale's proposed group sounds just too damn fun to me.  But alas and alack overseas travel is not my reality any more.

TH

ps - check your IM re other fun things on the horizon....

Bill - I know you guys couldn't care less, but what is the weather like for golf at the end of March?

Hopefully warmer than Pawley's Island in November!  :o

"Hope" is a good word to use for our thoughts about the weather - but I did just order a new rain suit.

Hey! Pawleys Island was very nice for November. 60-65 days, not a cloud in the sky... what more could you want.

If you get a third group started I just might be able to swing the trip. There are some great airfares being offered for that time period.

Don't know about the Reverse Old Course program (3/28-30), but Rich Goodale is player #1 for foursome #3 at Muirfield on 3/27, and we will have as many as we want on 3/26 at North Berwick.  It just takes a commitment to be part of the Spring Fling!  ;D

Hi Bill

My wife Shane and I would love to play at Muirfield on the Tuesday -- I believe Shane has sent you a PM about it.

Thanks

Matt

At this point we have two groups of four going off the 10th tee right before 9 a.m. playing fourball.  There are plenty of times available for two balls off the 1st in the morning, so I suggested to Shane that she book you two in that option.  We'll all be around in the afternoon as well.  I did mention to her that ladies are unfortunately not included in the luncheon.  Muirfield has become more liberal but not THAT liberal.  ::)

I also told her we would be assembling the day before at North Berwick around 1 p.m. (two of us arrive from the US that morning in Edinburgh).  If you get a time close to 1 p.m. we can mix it up when everybody is there.

I like Shane's moniker for the entire week's events: The Spring Fling!  ;D  We had one of those in college that is still discussed in hushed tones at UCSB.

Thanks Bill.

For Monday, I am keen to try and get a game at Carnoustie -- what with the Open being played there and all. We will be arriving from Beijing on the Saturday and if we can play Carnoustie on Sunday then we will be up for NB on Monday. Otherwise, Carnoustie on Monday for us

et al,
I should know more on Tuesday after I talk with my travel agent and get my green fees off to David. I should be arriving in Glasgow sometime on Monday. North Berwick is my top priority. Muirfield is a ?.
Just drove back from Bandon and I can again walk multiple rounds, just not on the same day. Met Tom Jefferson.

Update: I fly into Glasgow at 7:30 am and can make North Berwick if I'm not too tuckered out. Muirfield would be possible, but only for a morning 18 and lunch. Trying to arrange April 1 at Prestwick before flying home on the 2nd.

2nd update: I will pass on Muirfield. Have fun.

Re Muirfield 27th March 2007

As an update to Bill McBride's reply #127 Matt & Shane Sullivan have booked as a two ball, bringing the total confirmed to 10.  Sean Walsh and I are also in the process of booking a tee time. I will book as a two ball but if there is any one out there interested in (& prepared to commit to) joining us please let me know within the next 24 hours.

How many want to play North Berwick on Monday 3/26? The green fee is L45, but only need to deposit L15. Do we need more than two times?
I'm a yes.

I think Tony Muldoon is putting a group together for North Berwick. You might want to liaise with him with a view to us all getting consecutive tee times. Bill McBride has also expressed an intention of playing NB on Monday afternoon.

Update
Monday 26th March

Philip Gawith
Mark Pearce
Andrew Mitchell
Michael Christensen
Tony Muldoon.

Hickory morning confirmed. Alfie Ward is arranging to bring the Arbory Brae experience to Old Mussleburgh. (See the Feature Interview) Alfie will give more details of what he proposes nearer the time.  But he wants us to try the stymie, sand tees and… well a few other things including some rare original clubs.

Will be along the following lines. Coffee and introduction 8am. 18 holes 8.30am. Sandwiches after and leave approx 12.30. Cost for this is a maximum of £60.00 (Depends on final numbers)

There is also a good chance that we will be joined by Shane Sullivan and her husband Matthew if they can tie the whole trip together.

Afternoon tee time at North Berwick 1.30pm (I'll check cost but I thought website says £60 each.)

Does anyone have any ideas for places to stay?   Bill is in Gullane and his B&B is booked up. Andrew has done some research in to B&B's in North Berwick where there's a good choice of places to eat. This can be finalised later.

All 5 of us will be playing Muirfield on the Tuesday.

Anyone like to join us please send me an IM.  I am very busy until next week so I might be slow to respond.

(On the weekend just before, I am playing Turnberry on the great deal Sean Arble flagged up and I’ll be happy to rearrange my tee times if anyone else is going to be there.)

March can't come soon enough.

I would agree that the green fee at North Berwick is advertised at £60. Winter rate finishes 28th February.

So your itinerary is Turnberry - Musselburgh (with hickories) - North Berwick - Muirfield.  Who's a lucky boy then!  Are you in for the Reverse Old Course as well just to round your trip off? ;D

Huzzah. Bill, sorry no Muirfield for me, will be a no frills except possibly for North Berwick. Now to see if www.kayak.com results in some good bargains.

Sunrises are before 7 am and sunsets about 7:45 pm. That's enough time for some gowf.

Bill McBride

there is our answer for Monday night after North Berwick.  Sunset about 7.45pm.  That means we should have time (Tom Doak willing) to see Archerfield after golf.

Sunset will be 7:38 p.m.  If we finish our round at North Berwick by 5 p.m. and don't get too far into the Belhaven's Best upstairs, we should have time for a quick walk around Archerfield on 3/26.  You are right, we'll have to hope that works for Tom Doak and his guys!

I have a confirmation from Norma at North Berwick that the rate in late March is 45 pounds for weekdays and 50 pounds for weekends.  Deposit is 10 pounds.

I have myself, James Bennett, David Mulle and John Krystynak at 1 p.m. on Monday 3/26 on the books at North Berwick.  We'll wait in the bar for the 1:30 crowd!   ;D
