Sardine Routings
« on: August 25, 2006, 05:15:55 AM »
Imagine my surprise when someone as great as the stupendous Bruce Critchley described Firestone last night on Sky as 'a tin of sardines'.

He has clearly read my recent post regarding the boredom of parallel fairways and the restrictions imposed by compact sites.

Well done, Colonel! I'd rather listen to your comforting benign wafflings than Ewan Murray's inane drivelings anyday!

FBD.

PS Anyone else feeling suddenly peckish?

The White River runs dark through the heart of the Town,
Washed the people coal-black from the hole in the ground.

Martin,

Feeling quite peckish. So much so that I curtailed my wall polling activities, sallied forth, and infiltrated your place of purveyance...  ;)

You are right Martin - the Colonel is the man! It would be nice to have a drink with him - you always feel he is holding back a bit. Not so sure about our Ewan.

Rather have either of them than the charicature that Peter Alliss has become.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

The Colonel just told a nice story on air: in the context of a discussion about recreational vehicles, he said they used to be called caravans and his parents had one. Back in 1937 they used to go and have a game of golf at The Addington on a Saturday, then retire to the caravan in the parking lot, get changed, and go off dancing at The Savoy!

...might the term "best sardine routing" be an oxymoron?

Yoytek:

Inverness, pre-Fazio? Even post-Fazio, it's pretty sardine-like and still regarded as a first-rate course.
