I played Dunne about 3 weeks ago and can verify the conditions are much improved over previous years. Course conditions have improved every year since Billy Casper Management took over management from the Forest Preserve. I played the Saturday before the Mid-Am qualifier about three weeks ago and the greens and fairways were in very good condition and the rough was long and lush. The bunkers are not great, but are 100% better than 3-4 years ago.
Shivas hits on the head regarding the architecture, pretty basic Killian and Nugent, but nonetheless a good challenge. There is a redundancy to the forced carries off the tee over water on #4, #11 and #18. But there are a several interesting holes, in particular #7 & #8 on the front, one of the better public par 4's on the back #15, and a couple of good par 5's #6 and #14.
Given the improved conditions and $50 weekend price tag George Dunne, along with Mistwood, is the best golf for the $$ in the Chicago area.
