Pawtucket Golf Club and Willie Parks
« on: October 21, 2002, 12:29:52 PM »
Had the opportunity to play Pawtucket Golf Club in Rhode Island a few weeks ago.

I was impressed with the layout, the routing, the use of the land and the maintenance plan or meld, etc.

My host indicated Willie Parks designed the course yet it appeared different from other Willie Parks courses I have played.

I noticed on the list of Tillinghast courses that Tillinghast did a reconstruction in 1936.

Does anyone know how much of the course is Willie Parks and what work Tillinghast actually did?

How much of the current course would be creditied to Tillinghast?

Was there a major makeover in 1936.

Best,
Dave

Dave,

Good question, I have also wondered what is original and what is not, but the club maintains that Tillinghast was hired to re-work 3 holes only, and that the rest is still attributed to Willie Park Jr. I assume that not much research into the history of the course architecture has ever been done.
